A device for implementing a rate-distortion optimization (RDO)-based small transform coefficients suppression algorithm includes a processing module, a control block, and a switch. The processing module may be configured to process a prediction residual associated with a transform unit (TU) of a video frame and to generate a number of coefficients and a processed output. The control block may be configured to receive the coefficients and to generate a control signal based on the plurality of coefficients. The switch may be configured to select, as an output of the device, one of the processed output or an output of a zero-out block based on the control signal. The zero-out block may be configured to assign a zero value to each of the plurality of coefficients of the TU to suppress small transform coefficients.
Abstract:
A transmitter's operation is characterized using components having relatively low cost and low complexity. A device includes comparator(s) that compare a transmitter's analog output to predetermined level(s) to generate count(s) associated with analog output range bin(s). Each of the predetermined levels is associated with a corresponding one of the analog output range bins. A transfer function of the transmitter is generated using the comparison count values associated with the analog output range bin(s). A histogram may be generated from the comparison count values associated with the various analog output range bins. An equalizer is implemented to process data that will be transmitted by the transmitter. The equalizer uses equalizer parameter(s) that are selected based on the characterization of the transmitter (e.g., its transfer function, its histogram, etc.). The equalizer may use default or start up parameters until the transmitter's operation is characterized.

Embodiments provide systems and methods for a probabilistic reporting mode, where an Optical Network Unit (ONU) sends a REPORT message only when it has data to transmit. The absence of a REPORT message from an ONU is treated by the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) as indicating absence of data to transmit at the ONU. In another aspect, embodiments include systems and methods for an unsolicited burst mode, where an ONU can be configured to transmit data in the upstream in an unsolicited manner. The unsolicited burst mode includes mechanisms to ensure that no data is lost due to potential collisions between ONUs.
Abstract:
A communication device or device includes a processor that generates and interprets signals that are transmitted and received via a communication interface. The processor receives an LDPC coded signal, via the communication interface, that is generated by puncturing at least one parity bit from another LDPC coded signal that is generated based on an LDPC code characterized by a first LDPC matrix. The processor operates on the first LDPC matrix to generate a second LDPC matrix by excluding at least one column and at least one row from the first LDPC matrix. The number of columns and rows excluded from the first LDPC matrix is based on the number of bits punctured from the other LDPC coded signal to generate the LDPC coded signal. The processor then decodes the LDPC coded signal using the second LDPC matrix to make estimates of information bits encoded within the LDPC coded signal.

Systems, apparatuses, and methods provided for semiconductor devices and integrated circuit (IC) packages that include compliant dielectric layers. In a through silicon via interposer or substrate, a compliant dielectric material may be added to a surface of silicon material body to form a compliant dielectric layer. The compliant dielectric layer provides a thermal buffer and a stress buffer for a resulting IC package. The compliant dielectric material may be selected such that the coefficient of thermal expansion of the compliant dielectric material approximately matches the coefficient of thermal expansion of the circuit board on which the IC package is mounted. The compliant dielectric material may be selected such that it has a deformability that is greater than the silicon material body. Multiple sub-layers of compliant dielectric material may be used.

An integrated circuit package includes a ball arrangement that includes transmitter contact pairs arranged in a first portion of a ball grid array disposed in the integrated circuit package. Each of the transmitter contact pairs include transmitter differential signal contacts. Pairs of the transmitter contact pairs located adjacent to one another are in a staggered arrangement. The ball arrangement also includes receiver contact pairs arranged in a second portion of the ball grid array. Each of the receiver contact pairs include receiver differential signal contacts. Pairs of the receiver contact pairs located adjacent to one another are in a staggered arrangement. The ball arrangement also includes voltage supply contacts arranged at least between every two pairs of the transmitter contact pairs and the receiver contact pairs.

A system includes a pre-trigger buffer and a post-trigger buffer for recording entries related to specific network element. Buffer management monitoring circuitry captures entries leading up to a trigger criterion being met in the pre-trigger buffer and entries following the trigger criterion being met in the post-trigger buffer. The trigger criterion may include network element status, such as a threshold queue level; or an event, such as a dropped packet. The pre-trigger buffer may include a circular buffer in which older entries are overwritten by newer entries. Once the trigger condition is met, the pre-trigger buffer contents are held while the post-trigger buffer fills. Once the post-trigger buffer fills, the contents of the buffers may be read.

A transceiver of an apparatus supports communication with at least one additional apparatus. A processing module processes at least a portion of media access control (MAC) header content of a MAC frame within a signal received via the at least one transceiver or generated internally. In particular, the MAC header content, and optionally the MAC payload content, is processed based on a filter and classification agreement between the apparatus and the at least one additional apparatus to classify the MAC frame.

System, method and apparatus for multi-dimensional modulation schemes with high noise immunity and low emission idle (LEI) signaling for automotive area networks. An extra zero constellation point can be used during an idle mode and extra constellation points can be assigned to control signals.
