The invention relates to the dough and pancake industry, and all new industries wherein a product undergoes nixtamilization. The invention more particularly relates to a rotary reactor for nixtamalization, having a better capacity for homogenization of the reagents in both the process and product. The advantages of reactors included in the invention when compared to prior art is that they enable a higher degree of homogenization of the trinomial water, lime and product to be nixtamalized and make it possible to control the homogenization operation of the trinomial without damaging the soft grains and to achieve homogenization of the temperature throughout the entire mass of the product. Structurally speaking, the reactors according to the present invention are characterized in that they are made up of a center chamber surrounded by a series of jackets, including one longitudinal end at a given height, and another longitudinal opposite end at a lower height, wherein the longitudinal line of the reactor forms an angle which is selected between 15° and 30° in relation to the horizontal.

A thrust bearing connected to the frame engages a trunnion ring to accommodate any horizontal thrust load for an inclined cylindrical drum. Each self-aligning trunnion includes a base plate on which is mounted a trunnion roller with an axis of rotation substantially parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the cylindrical drum. A pair of bearing supports are connected to the base plate transversely with respect to the longitudinal axis of the drum in order to permit arcuate movement of the base plate about one bearing support and to permit tilting movement of the base plate about a transverse axis through the bearing supports. The arcuate and tilting movements of the base plate permit the trunnion roller to maintain full tangential contact with the trunnion ring.

A truck mounted concrete mixer includes a mixing drum (1) rotatable about longitudinal axis (2) having a drum head (3) and an open end (4) to receive batch materials to be mixed. A pair of generally helical mixing blades (5) are disposed within the drum (1) but instead of extending to the drum head (3) as occurs in standard concrete mixers, the mixing blades terminate short of the drum head (3) and a second blade (6) extends from each mixing blade (5) toward the drum head (3) at an angle of about 90° to the helical blade (5) and at a height greater than that of the adjoining mixing blade. This height difference defines a spillway formation (7) above the mixing blade (5). In use, the second blade (6) acts to push or mechanically transfer material from near the drum head to the centre bottom area of the drum into an air gap above the material where it cascades down over the spillway formation upon mixing rotation of the drum which has the effect of maximising frictional and impact forces and breaking open lumps and agglomerations formed in the material. The material then re-engages the main mixing blade (5) and is wound forward once again repeating the mechanically induced mixing action.

A portable mixing apparatus that employs disposable 5-gallon plastic buckets as containers for mixing mortar, grout, plaster and other materials. First and second motor-driven rollers support the buckets at a downwardly sloped angle. A separate mixing basket is placed within the buckets, and includes a plurality of blades that pass through the material as the bucket is rotated by the rollers. The leading roller is positioned lower than the trailing roller so as to engage the flexible wall of the bucket in an area where it is subject to outward pressure from the material during rotation. The rollers are provided with ribbed, non-slip covers having channels that accommodate water and debris on the exteriors of the buckets. The mixing basket is formed of a plurality of coaxial, longitudinally-spaced rings joined at their edges by longitudinal rods. The blades are mounted internal to the rings and extend generally parallel to the axis of the buckets, with the ends of the rods being angled in the direction of rotation. The drive rollers and motor are mounted in a frame having folding legs so that the assembly can be collapsed to a compact form for transportation or storage.

This generic method can be utilized in the production of a wide variety of polymeric compounds and composites and specifically encompasses the two ends of the polymeric composite spectrum, that is, polymer concretes on the one hand, and fiber-reinforced polymer composites on the other. The composite materials of the present invention are characterized by visual count as being void and gas occlusion free to the level of 1 micron at 1250null magnification. Concomitantly, the invention produces useful polymer concrete materials which exhibit substantially improved integrity for easy machining at high speeds, and high dielectric and mechanical strength, as compared with composite materials produced by conventional methods. Thus, one particularly well-suited application for the materials of the present invention is the class of high voltage electrical insulating materials and insulators where the presence of voids, or gas occlusion flaws, may have deleterious effects, leading to their early failure.

A method of and apparatus for forming a continuous structure includes the steps of preselecting a liquid reactive resin forming material, a particulate solid additive material and a porous blanket, mixing and encapsulating the additive particles with the liquid resin forming material while tumbling the materials along a cylindrical mixing chamber. The leading edge of the structure is grasped with a gripping device along its entire length and advanced over a horizontal supporting surface. Once a desired length has been formed a cutting device cuts the structure and the cut portion is placed into a final configuration while flexible and adhesive.
