摘要: A guide and method for use in coating of an elongated band with liquid material prior to its attachment to a substrate. The guide supports the band in a tilted orientation relative to a dispensing outlet of a liquid dispenser. The liquid dispenser dispenses a continuous bead or filament of adhesive that wraps around the band to coat the band while it is separate from the substrate. The coated band is thereafter bonded to the substrate.

摘要: A method and apparatus for applying granules to a coated asphalt sheet to form at high production speeds with shingles a variegated pattern having uniform pattern edges. Granules of a first color are applied to spaced first areas on a continuously moving tacky asphaltic strip, such as a hot asphalt coated organic or glass fiber mat. Hot asphalt or another adhesive is applied to at least a portion of one or both of the leading and trailing edges of the first areas to provide predetermined uniform edges to tacky second areas between the spaced first areas. Granules of a second color are then deposited on the second areas. The granule coated strip is then cut into shingles. The method may be used to create multiple pattern areas with two or more different colored granules or granule blends.

摘要: A method and apparatus for fabricating resin mats having a plurality of mat layers is provided. Multiple mat sheets are conveyed between two spaced rollers while being impregnated with resin contained in at least one reservoir formed between the rollers and sheets. A resin feeding system supplies resin to a location between the sheets which substantially corresponds to the longitudinal centerlines of the sheets to ensure adequate impregnation of the mat layers while minimizing any residual resin from adhering to the rollers. Dam members are also positioned between the rollers at the longitudinal sides of the sheets to aid in forming the reservoir(s) and also to maintain an appropriate spacing between the rollers. The roller spacing is configured to permit a predetermined degree of slippage between the rollers and the mat layers.

摘要: Apparatus for wet laminating a photopolymerizable film onto circuit board panels or other substrates. The apparatus is easily and quickly convertible from dry laminating to wet laminating with the rollers therefor mounted in bearing blocks which are insertable in slots in brackets at each end and removable therefrom. The lower roller thereof has a gear the teeth of which are meshable with the teeth of an idler gear for transmission of rotation power thereto. Elongate tubes for applying a fluid, which comprises between about 0.1 and about 10 wt. % of a heterocyclic metal-chelating agent, to the wet insertion rollers for application thereof to the panels are contained in a yoke which is adjustable next to wet insertion rollers for wet laminating or away from dry insertion rollers for dry laminating. The flow rate of fluid to the elongate tubes is controlled, and excess fluid applied to the wet insertion rollers is collected in a tray and returned to the system in order to prevent waste and undesirable environmental effects. In accordance with an alternative embodiment, fluid is applied to a substrate by a first pair of insertion rollers and the amount of fluid retained on the substrate is regulated by applying and regulating a pressure between a second pair of insertion rollers and the substrate. The lower of the first pair of insertion rollers, which transmits driving force to the second pair of insertion rollers, comprises a roller member removably attached to a pair of fixedly mounted stub shafts so that it may be easily removed and replaced for conversion between wet and dry lamination.

摘要: Improved process for laminating two sheets, the surface of the primary sheet being sensitive to distortion by pressure or friction, by applying an adhesive to the back side of the primary sheet or to the mating side of the secondary sheet, or to both, contacting the mating side of the secondary sheet with the back side of the primary sheet and firmly pressing together the two sheets while avoiding the application of any pressure to the pressure-sensitive face side of the primary sheet until at least 50 percent of the terminal bond strength is developed, by maintaining the primary and secondary sheets taut and applying pressure from the back side of the secondary sheet. Laminates prepared according to the above process, such as tufted carpets comprising a primary backing material stitched with closely spaced tufts of yarn and a secondary backing material adhered thereto with an adhesive, have improved pile lay characteristics.
