Abstract:
In one aspect, methods of coating a surface with carbon are described herein. In some implementations, a method of coating a surface with carbon comprises electrically charging carbon particles; directing the charged carbon particles toward an electrically charged surface; and contacting the charged carbon particles with the electrically charged surface. In some implementations, the method further comprises forming a coating of physisorbed carbon particles on the surface.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for coating metal substrates are provided. The methods and systems include a powder coating composition comprising a polymeric binder and an application package. The application package includes at least one antistatic component and at least one post-blended component. Use of the application package reduces back ionization and faraday cage effects during electrostatic application. The described methods provide coatings with optimal surface smoothness and edge coverage.
Abstract:
A method for providing a metallic coat covering a surface is disclosed, which comprises: (i) applying an electrically conductive two component binder on said surface; (ii) electrostatic spraying a metal powder on the binder applied in step (i); wherein the metal powder comprises metal particles with an average diameter less than 80 micron.
Abstract:
A method for producing an article with a low reflection film having a low reflection film on a substrate 2, comprising applying a coating composition to the substrate 2 using an electrostatic coating method of atomizing and electrifying the coating composition so as to be attached to the substrate 2 by static electricity, and baking or drying the coating composition to form the low reflection film, wherein the coating composition contains a dispersion medium (a), fine particles (b) dispersed in the dispersion medium (a), a binder (c) dissolved or dispersed in the dispersion medium (a), and an organic compound (d) having a polar group dissolved or dispersed in the dispersion medium (a).

Abstract:
A volatile corrosion inhibiting agent is provided for dispersion of a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor in a vapor stream that is passed into a sheath or other casing enclosing a metal bar, cable, or other tension member to protect said tension member from corrosion.
Abstract:
A powder hopper is provided with a low turbulence zone for supplying powder to a spray gun. The low turbulence zone is defined by a baffle inside the hopper with the low turbulence zone being within a volume of the baffle, and an annular zone between the baffle and the hopper is used to bulk feed powder into the hopper. The low turbulence zone may alternatively be in the annular zone with powder added to the volume of the baffle. One preferred application for this hopper is in connection with the use of fine powder coating materials to coat the interior of small diameter cans.
Abstract:
Simulated anodized coating systems and methods are provided. The method can include preparing an exterior surface of a metallic electronic enclosure and applying a translucent powder coating to the prepared exterior surface of the metallic electronic enclosure. The method can also include curing the translucent powder coating to form a continuous, translucent, chromatic surface on the prepared exterior surface of the metallic electronic enclosure. The method can also include applying a transparent, matte, liquid coating over the cured translucent powder coating to provide a consistent matte, continuous, chromatic surface on the prepared exterior surface of the metallic electronic enclosure.
Abstract:
Various embodiments provide materials and methods for forming a fluoroplastic coating layer from a powder mixture including a leveling agent and/or a transient binder material to improve the powder coating quality, wherein the powder mixture can further include a plurality of fluoroplastic powder and a plurality of aerogel particles.
Abstract:
A method for the application of at least two different powder coating layers to a substrate comprising the steps of application of a first powder coating layer followed by the application of a second powder coating layer, without any substantial curing of the first powder coating layer prior to the application of the second powder coating layer, followed by the simultaneous curing of the first powder coating layer and the second powder coating layer, wherein the first powder coating layer is applied to the substrate using a corona charging system and the second powder coating layer is applied to the substrate using a tribo charging system, or the first powder coating layer is applied to the substrate using a tribo charging system and the second powder coating layer is applied to the substrate using a corona charging system and the first powder coating layer and second powder coating layer have an opposite electrostatic polarity.
