    摘要: An electroluminescent device emits light at a pump wavelength. A first photoluminescent element covers first and second regions of the electroluminescent device and converts at least some of the pump light from the first region of the electroluminescent device to light at a first wavelength. A second photoluminescent element covers the second region of the electroluminescent device without covering the first region of the electroluminescent device and converts at least some of the light of the pump wavelength to light at a second wavelength different from the first wavelength. In some embodiments the first and second photoluminescent elements convert substantially all of the pump light incident from the first and second regions of the electroluminescent device respectively. An etch-stop layer may separate the first and second photoluminescent elements.

    摘要: A polarizer is formed with an arrangement of polymer fibers substantially parallel within a polymer matrix. The polymer fibers are formed of at least first and second polymer materials. At least one of the polymer matrix and the first and second polymer materials is birefringent, and provides a birefringent interface with the adjacent material. Light is reflected and/or scattered at the birefringent interfaces with sensitivity to the polarization of the light. In some embodiments, the polymer fibers are formed as composite fibers, having a plurality of scattering polymer fibers disposed within a filler to form the composite fiber. In other embodiments, the polymer fiber is a multilayered polymer fiber. The polymer fibers may be arranged within the polymer matrix as part of a fiber weave.

    摘要: A transflective display includes a liquid crystal (LC) panel having an array of pixels defining a viewing area, the panel being disposed between a front and back polarizer. The display also includes a backlight and a transflector, except that the transflector may optionally be or include the back polarizer. The transflector is disposed between the LC panel and the backlight. The backlight produces multiple light components that are separated temporally to give the display a full color appearance in the transmissive viewing mode. The multiple light components may be, for example, red, green, and blue light components, or another set of light components capable of producing white light in the eye of the observer when modulated rapidly.
