Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure generally provide flame retardant compositions and methods comprising organic polymers, mineral fillers, high surface area mineral fillers and process aids. Compositions of the disclosure additionally are comprised of high surface area hydrated metal carbonate fillers, including the mesoporous amorphous magnesium carbonate filler Upsalite. The filler's porous structure and high surface area provides high water capacity, enhanced physical and chemical interaction with a polymer in composite, lower by weight loadings of filler in a composite, as well as effective flame retardancy.

Abstract: An epoxy-based resin system composition includes a latent functionality for polymer adhesion improvement. The composition may be used to produce an overcoat layer and/or protection layer in an anti-sulfur resistor (ASR). In some embodiments, the composition include epoxy-based resin(s), hardener(s) and, optionally, blowing agent(s) and/or filler(s). An epoxide functionality of one or more of the epoxy-based resin(s) and a reactive functionality of one or more of the hardener(s) react with each other at a first temperature. The latent functionality, which does not react at the first temperature, is contained in at least one of the epoxy-based resin(s), hardener(s) and filler(s) and reacts in response to another stimulus (e.g., UV light/initiator and/or a second temperature greater than the first temperature) to enhance chemical bonding. Optionally, voids created via etching and/or the blowing agent(s) may be used to enhance mechanical bonding, alone, or in combination with filler(s) exposed in the voids.

Abstract: A method for examining wear of a connector contact using atom transfer radical polymerization. Metals in the connector contact are involved in atom transfer radical polymerization. In the method, polymers are formed via atom transfer radical polymerization. An average molecular weight and a polydispersity index of the polymers are determined. The exposure of underlying metal layers of the connector contact is determined based on the average molecular weight and atom transfer radical polymerization.

Abstract: In an example, a process for bonding a dry film solder mask (DFSM) material to a printed circuit board (PCB) laminate material is disclosed. The process includes applying a DFSM material that includes a dienophile functional group to a PCB laminate material that includes a diene functional group. The process further includes bonding the DFSM material to the PCB laminate material via a chemical reaction of the dienophile functional group with the diene functional group.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing polymeric currency utilizing three dimensional objects may include forming a first and second layer of biaxially oriented polypropylene. Ink may be selectively applied to one or more portions of one or more sides of the first layer of biaxially oriented polypropylene. In response to applying the ink, one or more apertures may be created into the second layer of biaxially oriented polypropylene. The first and second layers of biaxially oriented polypropylene may be laminated together. A three dimensional object may be printed within the one or more apertures in the second layer of biaxially oriented polypropylene. In response to printing, a protective overcoat may be applied on top of the second layer of biaxially oriented polypropylene.

Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure generally provide coating compositions and methods comprising poly(siloxane) (silicone) polymers and their modification. Plasma fluorine addition (fluorination) improves the barrier properties of poly(siloxane) coatings by decreasing the corrosive permeant solubility and by slowing permeant diffusion through the coating. Surface fluorinated poly(siloxane) coatings are thus more effective barriers to sulfur and sulfurous gas corrosion, and thereby enhance the lifetime of electronic components and associated circuitry.
