    摘要: The propeller shaft fairing is U-shaped in vertical section, and is partitioned to provide two separate sea chests from which water may be drawn for engine cooling purposes. The wall of the fairing in the region of the foremost sea chest is slot-wise apertured parallel to the propeller shaft and adjacent to the uprising side of the shaft when it is rotating to propel the craft forwardly, whereupon water is both rammed and pumped into the forward sea chest. The wall of the fairing in the region of the rearmost sea chest is apertured so that when the craft is moving in reverse water is rammed thereinto. Thus, under all conditions an adequate source of cooling water is available via at least one of the sea chests. The cooling water pump intake conduit includes separate branches drawing from the sea chests, and these branches are valve controlled automatically by means of the craft's operating control system.

Ramps (26) and (27) are formed in the gearcase (13) ahead of the inlets (16) to direct flow to the inlets (16). The ramp (26) ahead of the upper ports (16) has a greater depth to provide a substantial flow of water at positive pressure, while the ramp (27) ahead of the lower ports (16) has a lesser depth to avoid disturbances in flow when the unit is operated at high speeds where the upper inlets (16) are normally above the resting surface of the water.

    摘要: Two embodiments of water-cooled, four-cycle internal combustion engines used for outboard motors. In each embodiment, an arrangement is provided that offers a compact nature and which uses the coolant delivered to the engine for cooling the oil in the oil pan. In addition, an arrangement is provided whereby the exhaust pipe may pass through the oil pan and yet avoid significant heat transfer from the exhaust system to the lubricating system. In each embodiment of the invention, coolant is delivered to this clearance for further cooling the exhaust system. In one embodiment of the invention, an arrangement is provided for limiting the discharge of coolant from the clearance so as to maintain a level of coolant around the exhaust pipe.

    摘要: In a heat exchanger primarily for usage in conjunction with a marine vessel, said heat exchanger includes a longitudinal member formed having at least one passageway provided therethrough, and a series of radially extending fins integrally connecting longitudinally of said member. The longitudinal member is preferably approximately semicircular in configuration, with said fins extending from the conic-like surface of said semicircular design, with the other or flat surface of said member provided for flush mounting against the hull of the vessel. Said fittings communicate by means of fluid lines with the cooling system of the inboard engine of the vessel, thereby providing a path for transfer of its cooling fluid or medium from said engine, and through the heat exchanger for effective dissipation of its heat out of the radial fins and into the ambient water.
