Abstract: An optical arrangement includes at least one pair of displays, each pair having a first display and a second display configured to generate light in a visible spectral range. For each pair of displays, the optical arrangement includes a first polarizer configured to polarize the light incident from the first display, a second polarizer configured to polarize the light incident from the second display. The optical arrangement also includes first and second polarizing beam splitters for each pair of displays. Each polarizing beam splitter is configured to receive the polarized light from the first and second polarizers. Each polarizing beam splitter is also configured to reflect one of an s-polarized component and a p-polarized component of the received polarized light into at least one field of view (FOV) and transmit the other of the s-polarized component and the p-polarized component of the received polarized light into the subject FOV(s).

Abstract: A system for generating a centrally located floating three-dimensional image display for a plurality of passengers positioned within a vehicle includes a display adapted to project a multiplexed hologram comprising a plurality of three-dimensional holographic images, and a plurality of beam splitters, one beam splitter individually associated with each one of the plurality of passengers, each beam splitter adapted to receive one of the plurality of holographic images from the display and to reflect the one of the plurality of holographic images to the associated one of the plurality of passengers, wherein, each of the plurality of passengers perceives one of the plurality of three-dimensional holographic images floating at a central location within the vehicle.

Abstract: A system for generating a floating image for a passenger within a vehicle includes a passenger monitoring system adapted to monitor the position of the passenger's head and eyes, a compute engine in communication with the passenger monitoring system and adapted to calculate a holographic image and encode the holographic image onto a spatial light modulator (SLM) of a picture generating unit (PGU) hologram generator, a beam steering device, wherein the beam steering device is adapted to receive, via the compute engine, information related to a position of the passenger's head and eyes from the passenger monitoring system, and the SLM is adapted to project the holographic image to the beam steering device and the beam steering device is adapted to re-direct the projected holographic image to the eyes of the passenger, based on the information received from the passenger monitoring system.

Abstract: A method is designed to provide platooning information using a multi-focal plane augmented reality display of a host vehicle. The method includes receiving platooning data from at least one of a plurality of remote vehicles. Each of the plurality of remote vehicle is part of a platoon. The platooning data includes locations, trajectories, and headways of each of the plurality of remote vehicles. The method further includes determining whether the platoon is within a predetermined distance from the host vehicle using the platooning data. Further, the method includes transmitting a command signal to the multi-focal plane augmented reality display of the host vehicle to display a virtual image on the multi-focal plane augmented reality display. The virtual image is indicative of a platooning action related to the platoon that is within the predetermined distance from the host vehicle.

Abstract: A system for detecting external leaks in a cabin of a vehicle includes sensors and onboard vehicle controls disposed on the vehicle. Control modules of the system have processors, memory, and input/output (I/O) ports. The I/O ports communicate with the sensors and onboard vehicle controls. The control modules execute program code portions stored memory. The program code portions include first and second algorithm portions. The first algorithm portion receives data from the sensors and controls and determines that the data from the sensors and controls meets initialization threshold values. When the data from the sensors and controls meets the threshold values, the second algorithm portion generates a cabin leak detection output including: a first output, a second output, or a third output. The first output indicates a large leak, the second output indicates no leak, and the third output indicates that a small leak has been detected.

The health risk probability is a probability that the occupant of the vehicle has the health condition. The controller is further programmed to notify the occupant of the vehicle in response to determining that the health risk probability is greater than or equal to a predetermined health risk threshold.
