Abstract:
Methods for identifying agents capable of disrupting a salt bridge in an influenza A virus nucleoprotein corresponding to the E339 . . . R416 salt bridge in SEQ ID NO:1, and thus the trimerization of the NP protein; and uses of such agents, e.g., small molecules and peptides, for inhibiting influenza virus replication and treating infection caused by influenza virus.
Abstract:
A method of enhancing a mammalian immune response to a virus is disclosed. The method comprises administering a composition comprising an effective amount of epinecidin (Epi)-1 and the virus to a mammal, wherein the virus has envelope protein and is infectious to the mammal. A vaccine kit and a method for preventing Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for synthesis of bridged-hydropentacene, hydroanthracene and hydrotetracene from the precursor compounds pentacene derivatives, tetracene derivatives, and anthracene derivatives. The invention further relates to methods and systems for forming thin films for use in electrically conductive assemblies, such as semiconductors or photovoltaic devices.
Abstract:
A polycistronic expression cassette encoding proteins necessary for constructing a multi-enzyme complex was developed. Also disclosed herein is a host cell containing this polycistronic expression cassette and uses thereof in degrading biomass.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for treating cancer, comprising an effective amount of a compound represented by formula (I): wherein R is —CCOCCOCC— or —CCOCCOCCOCC—; and a pharmaceutical acceptable carrier. This invention also relates to a method for treating cancer, comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of said compound to a subject; and a method for stabilizing G4 structure of telomere by using this compound.
Abstract:
A novel system and methods for accelerating analytes including, without limitation, molecular ions, biomolecules, polymers, nano- and microparticles, is provided. The invention can be useful for increasing detection sensitivity in applications such as mass spectrometry, performing collision-induced dissociation molecular structure analysis, and probing surfaces and samples using accelerated analyte.
Abstract:
A multi-axis actuating apparatus for a nano-positioning apparatus includes a movable element attached to a sample platform, a plurality of driving elements, and a plurality of actuators. The driving elements frictionally engage the movable element and are configured to selectively move the movable element along a first direction. The plurality of actuators move the plurality of driving elements when driving signals are applied to the plurality of actuators. Different driving signals may be applied to the plurality of actuators to cause different movement of the driving elements such that the movable element has different displacements in different directions along the plurality of driving elements. The movable element is titled due to the different displacements.
Abstract:
Non-human animal models for frontotemporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive inclusions (FTLD-U) are disclosed. The invention relates to a transgenic mouse whose genome comprises a transgene operably linked to a neuronal specific promoter effective for an increased expression of the transgene in the brain of the mouse, in which the transgene comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43). The transgenic mouse exhibits reduced or impaired learning and memory capacity, and may further exhibits progressively impaired or reduced motor functions. Methods of using such animal models are also disclosed.
