Abstract: A method of manufacturing a feedthrough dielectric body for an active implantable medical device includes the steps of: a) forming an alumina ceramic body in a green state, or, stacking upon one another discrete layers of alumina ceramic in a green state and pressing; b) forming at least one via hole straight through the alumina ceramic body; c) filling the at least one via hole with a ceramic reinforced metal composite paste; d) drying the alumina ceramic body and the ceramic reinforced metal composite paste; e) forming a second hole straight through the ceramic reinforced metal composite paste being smaller in diameter in comparison to the at least one via hole; f) filling the second hole with a substantially pure metal paste; g) sintering the alumina ceramic body, the ceramic reinforced metal composite paste and the metal paste; and h) hermetically sealing the feedthrough dielectric body to a ferrule.

Abstract: A secondary header for an active implantable medical device (AIMD) incorporates a secondary header plug configured for mating insertion into an AIMD ISO DF4 or IS4 connector cavity, a secondary header ISO DF4 or IS4 connector cavity, and at least one replacement lead connector cavity. The secondary header plug has four electrical contacts which correspond to four electrical contacts of the AIMD connector cavity. The secondary header connector cavity has less than four electrical contacts conductively coupled to the secondary header plug electrical contacts. The replacement lead connector cavity has at least one electrical contact conductively coupled to at least one electrical contact of the secondary header plug. An intermediate conformal section between the secondary header plug and a housing for the secondary header connector cavity places the secondary header connector cavity housing adjacent to an exterior surface of the AIMD.

Abstract: An implantable monitoring device includes a flexible lead body that includes at least one sensing element. The device also includes a rigid main body connected to the flexible lead body at an attachment point. The rigid main body is generally centered about a longitudinal axis defined by the flexible lead body when the lead body is unflexed. The device further includes a measurement circuit, which is housed within the rigid main body and electrically coupled to the at least one sensing element of the flexible lead body and at least another sensing element on an outside surface of the rigid main body. The measurement circuit is configured to measure a potential difference between the at least one sensing element of the flexible lead body and the at least another sensing element of the main body.

Abstract: In various examples, a feedthrough seal apparatus is configured to seal an opening in a device. The device includes a case surrounding an interior space, the case including the opening therein to allow access to the interior space from an exterior of the case. The feedthrough seal apparatus includes a plug disposed within the opening of the case. The plug is formed from at least one of a polymeric material and an adhesive material. The lead wire extends through the plug, such that a first end of the lead wire is disposed within the interior space of the case and a second end extends from the plug to the exterior of the case. The plug is configured to electrically insulate the lead wire from the case. Some examples include a method of making the feedthrough seal apparatus.

Abstract: Via a pulse generator, a trigger signal is generated. The trigger signal indicates one or more stimulation pulses are about to be delivered, or is being delivered, to a patient. The trigger signal is sent to a measurement instrument. Via the pulse generator, the one or more stimulation pulses are generated. The one or more stimulation pulses are delivered to the patient. With the measurement instrument and in response to the trigger signal, one or more action potentials are measured. The one or more action potentials are produced by the patient in response to the one or more stimulation pulses.

Abstract: A feedthrough filter capacitor assembly comprising a terminal pin connector is described. The terminal pin connector is designed to facilitate an electrical connection between the terminal pin comprising a multitude of compositions to a circuit board of an implantable medical device. The terminal pin connector comprises a clip portion positioned within a connector housing. The connector clip mechanically attaches to the terminal pin of the feedthrough with at least one prong and an exterior surface of the connector housing electrically contacts the circuit board, creating an electrical connection therebetween. The connector housing comprises a material that is conducive to a weld or solder attachment process to the circuit board. The feedthrough filter capacitor assembly is particularly useful for incorporation into implantable medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers, cardioverter defibrillators, and the like, to decouple and shield internal electronic components of the medical device from undesirable electromagnetic interference (EMI) signals.

Abstract: A current collector in the form of a conductive substrate subjected to a special chemical etch to provide the current collector having a multi-thickness structure, is described. The multiple-thickness current collector structure provides an electrochemical cell with increased charge capacity per volume while enabling a robust weld connection thereto. The current collector has a frame and comprises within an inner perimeter of the frame, first strand structures that intersect second strand structures to provide a plurality of openings or interstices bordered by the strands. At least one tab portion having a thicker distal portion spaced from a thinner proximal tab portion that extends from an outer perimeter of the frame.

Abstract: A method of identifying a location for applying a stimulation therapy to treat a patient includes stimulating a first body region of the patient transcutaneously via a stimulus generator. The body region contains a first portion of a nerve that has an elongate shape. In response to the stimulating, action potentials received from a second portion of the nerve are monitored over a period of time. The second portion of the nerve is in a second body region of the patient that is located remotely from the first body region. Based on the monitoring, an optimized location of the second portion of the nerve is determined for applying the stimulation therapy to treat the first body region.

Abstract: A medical device includes telemetry circuitry configured to receive programming instructions. The medical device also includes stimulation circuitry configured to generate a plurality of electrical pulses in response to the programming instructions to provide an electrical stimulation therapy for a patient. The stimulation circuitry includes a voltage converter, a multiplexor, and a stimulation driver. At least one of the voltage converter, the multiplexer, or the stimulation driver is selectively enabled and disabled during or between the electrical pulses to reduce power consumption of the medical device.
