    摘要: An exhaust gas heating system and method of a direct injection compression ignition internal combustion engine which has a plurality of combustion chambers, an exhaust passage, and one or more direct fuel injection devices, each operable to inject fuel directly into a corresponding one of the combustion chambers. The system also includes a fuel injection controller which is operable to provide to at least one of the direct fuel injection devices, a post fuel injection signal during a corresponding cylinder cycle of the corresponding one of the plurality of combustion chambers. The post fuel injection signal is timed so as to provide exhaust gas heating from a resultant post fuel injection, and the fuel injection controller dynamically determines the particular one or more of the plurality of direct fuel injection devices to which the post fuel injection signal will be applied based on a temperature related engine operating parameter such as a desired amount of exhaust gas heating. The post fuel injection may also be timed and/or shaped such that it does not produce a substantial amount of mechanical energy but instead produces heated exhaust gasses.

    摘要: A method and system for the intake air separation within an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The disclosed embodiments of the intake air separation system includes an intake air separation device adapted for separating the intake air into a flow of the oxygen enriched air and a flow of nitrogen enriched air; an intake air circuit adapted to deliver intake air to the air separation device, and a purge air circuit adapted to deliver a flow of sweep air or purge air to the intake air separation device to increase the effectiveness of the air separation. The intake air separation device includes a first outlet in fluid communication with the intake air separation device and adapted to receive a flow of the oxygen enriched air and purge air as well as a second outlet also in fluid communication with the intake air separation device and adapted to provide the glow of nitrogen enriched air to the intake manifold for use in the combustion process. Controlling the flow and/or temperature of the purge air through the air separation device controls the air intake system.

The head has an air intake port and an exhaust port. The internal combustion engine also has a piston and a combustion chamber. The internal combustion engine further has an air intake valve movable to open and close the air intake port and an air supply system having at least one turbocharger fluidly connected to the air intake port. The internal combustion engine additionally has a fuel supply system operable to inject fuel into the combustion chamber, a cam assembly selectively mechanically linked to the air intake valve to move the air intake valve, and an electromagnetic actuator configured to decouple the cam assembly from the air intake valve and control movement of the air intake valve.

    摘要: A method of operating a diesel engine assembly having a combustion chamber is disclosed. The method includes the step of determining a desired level of NO.sub.x for exhaust gases exiting the combustion chamber and generating a fuel control signal in response thereto. The method further includes the steps of injecting an amount of combustor fuel into a combustor based on the fuel control signal and combusting the amount of combustor fuel in the combustor so as to produce combustion products. The method yet further includes the steps of advancing the combustion products into the combustion chamber during an intake stoke of the diesel engine and injecting diesel fuel with a fuel injector into the combustion chamber while the combustion products are located in the combustion chamber during a compression stroke. The method still further includes the step of combusting a mixture of the diesel fuel and the combustion products so as to produce exhaust gases during a power stroke. An engine assembly is also disclosed.

The disclosed embodiments of the intake air separation system include an intake air inlet adapted to receive the intake air used in the combustion process for the engine and an intake air separation device in flow communication with the intake air inlet and adapted for separating the intake air into a flow of the oxygen enriched air and a flow of nitrogen enriched air. The intake air separation system further includes a first outlet in fluid communication with the intake air separation device and adapted to receive the flow of the oxygen enriched air as well as a second outlet also in fluid communication with the intake air separation device and adapted to provide the flow of nitrogen enriched air to the intake manifold for use in the combustion process. The intake air separation system also includes a permeate air driver in fluid communication with the intake air separation device and operatively associated with the engine exhaust system adapted for forcibly directing the flow of oxygen enriched air via the permeate outlet.
