Abstract:
A hologram comprising three superimposed parallel diffraction gratings, each modulated by a different primary color component of an imaged object and having a different spatial frequency related to that component, is embossed in a suitable record such that at least one of the gratings is rotated with respect to the other two. The coarsest beat frequency in ''''multi-color'''' areas of the hologram is thereby increased over that for a hologram comprising mutually-parallel gratings, whereby the resolution of the hologram-as observed in a focussed image hologram projectoris similarly increased.
Abstract:
Crystal dislocations, in that portion of an epitaxial layer of semiconductive material over a buried pocket in a substrate in which a bipolar transistor''s emitter is located, are reduced by providing the buried pocket with a lower concentration of conductivity modifiers under the emitter.
Abstract:
A diode laser is improved in order to produce an output in a single longitudinal mode. The laser has a rectangular body with two regions of differing conductivity type material. Extending from one surface of the rectangular body and into one of the regions of differing conductivity material is a third region. Although the third region is composed of the same general conductivity type material as the region into which it extends, it is more highly doped with conductivity modifiers (more conductive). This third region extends along one surface between the ends of the body and is spaced from the sides of the body. An electrical contact stripe is positioned on the one surface so that a portion of its width overlaps a portion of the width of the third region.

Photomasks for microcircuit technology are prepared by evaporating cyclopentadienyl derivatives of transition metals, contacting the vapor with a heated substrate in an oxygencontaining atmosphere to form transition metal oxide films on the substrate and removing part of the film to form a desired pattern.
Abstract:
When the oscillator which supplies the alternating drive voltage for a liquid crystal display fails, the circuit of the present application removes the direct current operating voltage from the liquid crystal driver transistors. The oscillator drives a voltage converter which produces the operating voltage. A transistor in series with the line carrying the operating voltage is controlled by the operating voltage developed by the converter so that when the oscillator fails and the converter goes off, the transistor cuts off.
Abstract:
An information track of a color-picture sound disc comprises geometric variations in the bottom of a spiral groove, the variations having alternations between a first cross-sectional shape in which the groove bottom and adjacent groove walls define a continuous smooth curve and a second cross-sectional shape in which the groove bottom is depressed relative to the groove bottom level associated with the first cross-sectional shape. Recording apparatus for use in the mastering of such a color picture/sound disc and playback apparatus are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Horizontal interlacing of charge patterns read from an image sensing array is achieved by combining the charge signals read from each I''th and (I + 1''th) column during alternate field times and combining the charge signals read from each I''th and (I 1''th) column during the remaining field times.

Abstract:
The suppression of speaker noise caused by data signaling in a mobile radio system is achieved by detecting the presence of a single audio tone frequency over a time period and when the presence of such a tone is detected causing muting of the speaker of the mobile radio receiver.
Abstract:
A direction indicating display for a rotator assembly is achieved by four lights with each light indicating one of the four compass directions of north, south, east and west and by control of the current through these lights using diode rectifiers, spaced conductive strips and rotating contactors.
Abstract:
In a defect compensation system for a video disc player, stretched versions of defect indication pulses are obtained in a switching control signal generator employing an envelope detector, and a comparator referencing the detector output against a selected threshold voltage. A pair of complementary outputs developed by the comparator are applied to the bases of a pair of serially disposed transistors in respective normal and substitution signal channels, driving one to cutoff and the other to inverted mode saturation, or vice versa.
