Abstract:
A method for surfacing a polymeric composite article and/or for joining (for example, by bonding or by co-curing) the article and an adherend (for example, a second polymeric composite article) comprises (a) providing a cured or curable polymeric composite article; (b) providing a curable composition comprising (1) at least one thermosetting resin, and (2) at least one preformed, substantially non-functional, particulate modifier comprising at least one elastomer; and (c) directly or indirectly applying the composition to at least a portion of at least one surface of the article.
Abstract:
A primer composition is presented comprising an aqueous dispersion of a) a thermosetting resin, b) an organosilane containing no hydrolyzable group, and c) a curing agent. In some embodiments, the primer composition additionally comprises d) a rare earth metal containing corrosion inhibitor. In some embodiments, the primer composition comprises no chromium. In some embodiments, the organosilane containing no hydrolyzable group is an aminosilanol. In some embodiments of the primer composition, the thermosetting resin is an epoxy resin and the curing agent is an epoxy curing agent. In some embodiments of the primer composition, the rare earth metal containing corrosion inhibitor is a cerium containing corrosion inhibitor.
Abstract:
A polymerizable composition comprising a benzoxazine compound and a catalyst is described. The polymerizable composition may be cured to produce compositions useful in coating, sealants, adhesive and many other applications.
Abstract:
A polymerizable composition, articles, and methods are provided, wherein the polymerizable composition includes a benzoxazine, an acid-forming peroxide catalyst and optionally a film-forming polymer, a co-catalyst, a curative, or a combination thereof.

Abstract:
Provided are adhesive articles and related methods of making and use. The adhesive article includes one or more patterned adhesive layers comprising compositionally and spatially distinct adhesives that are laterally disposed relative to each other. The first and second adhesives are optionally capable of being functionally cured to provide a structural adhesive bond with a substrate. These adhesives can provide high fracture toughness and high modulus characteristics not otherwise possible in a homogeneous adhesive composition. These adhesives can provide some degree of crack arrestment and significantly reduce the need for mechanical fasteners in industrial bonding applications.
Abstract:
Provided is a curative part usable in a two-part curable composition. The curative part includes a liquid amine; a heterogeneous dispersant; and core-shell rubber particles having an elastomeric core and a (meth)acrylic shell. The core-shell rubber particles and the heterogeneous dispersant can be collectively shear-dispersed in the liquid amine such that the core-shell rubber particles are substantially non-aggregated and the curative part is phase-stable over a period of at least 3 months at ambient temperature. Advantageously, large amounts of core-shell rubber particles can thus be incorporated into a cured resin matrix, which can afford significantly enhanced impact performance.
Abstract:
Provided is a curable composition containing a reactive mixture of components including an polyethersulfone having a chemical group reactive with an epoxide, a cycloaliphatic polyepoxide resin, a polyepoxide having a functionality greater than two, a liquid diepoxide resin, a first curative containing 9,9-bis(aminophenyl)fluorene or a derivative therefrom and having a curing onset temperature of from 150° C. to 200° C. The components can further comprise a second curative having a curing onset temperature of from 60° C. to 180° C. When thermally curing this composition, the second epoxy curative starts to cure before the first epoxy curative, thereby inhibiting vertical flow of the adhesive during the curing process.
Abstract:
A polymerizable composition is described comprising a benzoxazine, and a tosylate, which when thermolyzed, forms a (meth)acrylamide, a (meth)acrylate, a vinyl ketone, a vinyl ether or a styrenic compound.
Abstract:
A method is provided for making structured hybrid adhesive articles comprising the steps of: a) providing an adhesive article comprising: i) a base resin comprising an epoxy resin, ii) a first epoxy curative, and iii) a second epoxy curative, by reacting the base resin with the first epoxy curative such that the first epoxy curative is substantially reacted with epoxy resin in the article and the second epoxy curative is substantially unreacted in the article; b) embossing the adhesive article with a relief pattern; and c) curing the adhesive article such that the second epoxy curative is substantially reacted with epoxy in the article. In some embodiments, the method additionally comprises a step of embedding a scrim in the adhesive. In some embodiments, the method additionally comprises a step of depositing an electrically conductive layer onto the surface of the adhesive article embossed with the relief pattern.
