Abstract: A method of mitigating temperature buildup in a passenger compartment of a vehicle is provided. The method includes the steps of: (a) monitoring a temperature differential between a temperature inside the passenger compartment and an ambient temperature of the passenger compartment; (b) generating power utilizing the temperature differential; and (c) actuating a passive mitigation accessory when the temperature differential is above a predetermined threshold. The method may include the additional steps of using the power generated utilizing the temperature differential to actuate said passive mitigation accessory and/or providing the power generated utilizing the temperature differential to said passive mitigation accessory via at least one standard wire harness of the vehicle.

Abstract: This disclosure details exemplary home energy storage systems capable of storing electricity locally for later consumption, such as for charging an electrified vehicle, supporting various home energy needs, and supporting alternative energy storage/power source functionality. An exemplary home energy storage system may include a stationary unit, one or more modular units removably connectable to the stationary unit, and a rack mounting and handcart transportation system configured to mount, detach, and transport the modular unit relative to the stationary unit. Once undocked from the stationary unit, the modular unit(s) may be utilized as a portable power source for powering one or more electrical loads. This disclosure further describes various interconnected functionalities (e.g., electrical and wireless communication of state of uses) between the stationary unit and the modular unit of home energy storage systems and between the modular unit and various satellite equipment associated with the modular unit.

Abstract: A vehicle traction battery assembly including a battery cell, a busbar, and a thermal spray is provided. The battery cell may include a terminal having an angled taper upper portion extending therefrom. The busbar may define a through-hole having a taper defining an angle substantially opposite of the angled taper upper portion such that a cavity is defined therebetween when the terminal extends through the through-hole. The thermal spray may be deposited within the cavity to secure the busbar to the terminal. The thermal spray may be formed from a metallic powder selected to include particles that deform and connect when accelerated to a speed of approximately 500 mph or more to join the particles and form a bond securing the terminal to the busbar. The particles of the metallic powder may be iron, copper, aluminum, nickel, iron, or magnesium.

Abstract: A pouch battery cell assembly for a traction battery includes a housing, a first intermediate terminal member, and a first terminal tab. The housing defines a cavity. The first intermediate terminal member is disposed at least partially within the housing and defines an access port open to an exterior of the housing and the cavity which may be sized for electrolyte injection. The first terminal tab is embedded within the first intermediate terminal member. A pressure sensitive release mechanism may be disposed within the access port to selectively vent gases from the cavity. A second intermediate terminal member may be at least partially disposed within the housing and a second terminal tab may be embedded within the second intermediate terminal member.

Abstract: A vehicle inductor assembly includes an inductor, a thermal plate, an emitter, and a controller. The inductor is secured within a housing. The thermal plate supports the inductor and includes a channel having a flexible wall with actionable particles. The emitter is located adjacent the channel. The controller is programmed to activate the emitter to impart a force upon the particles to move the wall such that a cross-sectional area of the channel is adjusted to influence a flow rate of coolant flowing therethrough. The wall may be a membrane partially secured to an interior of the channel and include the actionable particles. The actionable particles may be one of dielectric and magnetic particles and the emitter may selectively output one of a voltage, an electric field, or a magnetic field to move the dielectric or magnetic particles such that the membrane moves to adjust the cross-sectional area of the channel to influence a flow rate of coolant flowing therethrough.
