Abstract: A display panel with reduced power consumption is described. An example of the display panel includes an array of light emitting elements that are controllable to form an image, and a Thin-Film-Transistor (TFT) backplane comprising circuitry to drive the array of light emitting elements. The TFT backplane includes a plurality of field effect transistors (FETs). Each FET includes a source electrode, a drain electrode, a channel layer contacting the source electrode and the drain electrode, and a gate electrode adjacent to the channel layer and separated from the channel layer by an insulator. The channel layer includes a layer of metal phosphide.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are display panels, display panel stacks, and techniques to manufacture such display panel stacks where a polarizer is provided for each illumination element of the display panel stack. A polarizer can be formed onto each individual illumination element once the illumination element is transferred to the backplane. The polarizer can be arranged to polarize light emitted from the illumination element and light incident on the display from ambient.

Abstract: A display panel is described which includes Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that exhibit a specified beam angle. The display panel can be used for a head-mounted display. An example of a head-mounted display includes a display panel with an array of LEDs that are controllable to form an image. The head-mounted display also includes circuitry to receive image data and render an image on the display panel. The head-mounted display also includes circuitry to detect motion of the head-mounted display. The image data is generated based in part on the motion of the head-mounted display. Each LED in the array of LEDs is configured to emit light at a specified beam angle that directs the light toward a pupil of a wearer of the head-mounted display.

Abstract: Imaging systems providing high resolution, low light images with significant dynamic range are disclosed. The improvements to photo imaging sensors providing low costs and yet higher performance sensors may be obtained an enhanced photosensor generating a single color channel image per photosensor. The single color channel image contains luminence values corresponding to light focused onto the photosensor. The plurality of photosensors are constructed using Indium gallium nitride (InGaN) nanowire structures and nanopyramid structures used in cells within an array of cells. Photosensors may be constructed as single color imaging devices as well as multi-color devices. The generation of various color channel images are controlled using metasurface filter structures as well as color filter layers setting a wavelength for absorbed light by controlling a concentration of indium gallium nitride (InGaN) within the color filter layers.
