A method in a base station includes transmitting, to a terminal, information associated with a resource region carrying a control channel; transmitting, to the terminal, a plurality of values associated with control channel candidates, each of the plurality of values corresponding to each of a plurality of numbers associated with CCEs constituting one control channel candidate, wherein the each of the plurality of values indicates a number of control channel candidates to be monitored by the terminal; determining a set of control channel candidates based on an ID of the terminal and at least one of the plurality of values associated with the control channel candidates; selecting at least one control channel candidate from among the set of control channel candidates; and transmitting the control information to the terminal through the at least one selected control channel candidate in the resource region.

A method for performing a data session via a Wi-Fi access of a user equipment (UE) in a cellular network is provided. The method includes maintaining a look-up table including at least an entry, the entry including a Wi-Fi identifier of a Wi-Fi access point (AP) and location information of the Wi-Fi AP, determining whether a user preference for a Wi-Fi connection is set to ON or OFF, checking whether at least one matched entry of the look-up table is found based on current location information of the UE, scanning to discover the Wi-Fi AP, connecting to a Wi-Fi AP corresponding to the matched entry based on a result of the determining, and performing a data session via a Wi-Fi access to the connected Wi-Fi AP.

The present disclosure relates to a pre-5th-Generation (5G) or 5G communication system for supporting higher data rates Beyond 4th-Generation (4G) communication system such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). Next generation of wireless cellular operation is expected to be deployed in higher frequency above 6 GHz (eg. 10 GHz˜100 GHz, also called mmWave and/or cmWave) due to availability of large amount of spectrum bandwidths. The physical layer of wireless cellular system in both DL and UL operating in mmWave/cmWave would be based on new air-interface different from that of LTE-A air-interface because the radio characteristics is different for mmWave/cmWave bands. The initial deployment of mmWave/cmWave system is expected to operate as non-standalone system to provide additional radio resources to the UE which would be connected to the LTE-A cell for coverage purpose. The present disclosure covers initial access aspects of a UE on such future wireless system.

The method includes determining a most favored direction with a highest signal quality with respect to a reference signal received from a base station and determining, as a reported object, some channel directions including the most favored direction among channel directions formed together with the base station, identifying a channel quality information group including channel quality information corresponding to the some channel directions among channel quality information groups classified according to a distance measured with respect to the most favored direction, and transmitting the identified channel quality information group to the base station.

The UE receives a control signal including one bit of frequency hopping information, a resource allocation type, a resource allocation, and a cyclic shift for a reference signal from the Node B. It is determined that the frequency hopping information is used as a part of resource allocation information, if the resource allocation type indicates that two sets of resource blocks are allocated. The UE transmits data based on the frequency hopping information, the resource allocation type, and the resource allocation included in the control signal. Each of the resource blocks comprises one or more resource block groups, and a size of each resource block group is determined based on an uplink bandwidth.

A method of decoding a reception signal having an interference signal included therein by User Equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes receiving the reception signal having the interference signal included therein, identifying at least one of transmission parameters for the interference signal, identifying a modulation scheme of the interference signal and reception strength of the interference signal using the identified transmission parameter, removing the interference signal from the reception signal based on the identified modulation scheme and the identified reception strength of the interference signal, and decoding the reception signal from which the interference signal is removed.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for performing communication by a UE in a mobile communication system. A speed of the UE is measured by using an acceleration sensor in the UE. The UE determines that a change of the measured speed is detected in accordance with a predetermined criteria. The UE transmits information about the measured speed to a serving base station if the change of the measured speed is detected. Information about a target cell determined by the serving base station based on the measured speed is received from the serving base station. A handover procedure to the target cell is performed in response to receiving the information about the target cell.
