摘要: In an internal combustion engine, a hydrocarbon feed valve (15) and an exhaust purification catalyst (13) are arranged in an engine exhaust passage. As rich control for making the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas which flows into the exhaust purification catalyst (13) rich, cylinder rich control for generating rich air-fuel ratio combustion gas in the cylinder and exhaust rich control for feeding hydrocarbons from the hydrocarbon feed valve (15) to make air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas rich are used. When the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas which flows into the exhaust purification catalyst should be made rich, if the speed of the vehicle is lower than a predetermined speed and the gear position of the transmission is at a predetermined low speed gear position, exhaust rich control is used instead of cylinder rich control.

摘要: In an internal combustion engine, a hydrocarbon feed valve (15), NOx storage catalyst (13), particulate filter (14), and electric resistance type sensor (29) are arranged in an engine exhaust passage in this order from an upstream side. The electric resistance type sensor (29) generates an output value corresponding to the amounts of deposition of particulate matter and hydrocarbons which are contained in the exhaust gas and deposited at the sensor part thereof. From the change of the output value of the electric resistance type sensor (29), it is judged if the hydrocarbons have slipped through the NOx storage catalyst (13) and if the particulate matter has slipped through the particulate filter (14).

摘要: An internal combustion is configured such that a hydrocarbon supply valve (15) and an exhaust gas purification catalyst (13) are arranged in an engine exhaust gas passage and such that NOx contained within exhaust gas is purified by spraying hydrocarbon from the hydrocarbon supply valve (15) at predetermined intervals. When SOx is to be released from the exhaust gas purification catalyst (13), the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas which flows into the exhaust gas purification catalyst (13) is enriched by generating, within a cylinder, combustion gas having a rich air-fuel ratio, and after that the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas which flows into the exhaust gas purification catalyst (13) is enriched by supplying hydrocarbon from the hydrocarbon supply valve (15).

摘要: A control device includes first means and second means for recirculating exhaust gas from an exhaust passage toward an intake passage. When first recirculated gas amount recirculated by first means for recirculating exhaust gas is changed to a target amount, the control device compensates for the difference of the first recirculated gas amount during a period from a start time of change to an end time of change by increasing or decreasing the second recirculated gas amount recirculated by second means for recirculating exhaust gas, according to a predetermined control pattern. When an actual amount of index related to the recirculated gas amount that is a constituent included in the exhaust gas and an amount of the constituent vary depending on total amount of the exhaust gas does not match a referential amount of the index, the control pattern is corrected to decrease the difference of the index that is a difference of the actual amount with reference to the referential amount.
