摘要: An internal combustion engine that includes a cylinder block formed with a cylinder bore, a cylinder head operatively connected to the cylinder block; a piston slidably disposed in the cylinder bore to define a combustion chamber; an engine front side squish area and a rear side squish area where the engine front and rear side squish areas include narrow gaps formed between a cylinder head and the piston is disclosed. The engine front side squish area and the engine rear side squish area generate a squish flow in the combustion chamber in response to the piston moving within the cylinder bore. Engine front and rear side igniter plugs are also provided that each include a pair of electrodes placed adjacent the respective engine front and rear side squish areas so that squish flow may pass through an igniter gap defined between the pairs of electrodes of the front and rear side igniter plugs.

摘要: An air intake structure is provided with an air intake control valve disposed in the air intake passage. The air intake control valve has a valve element pivotally mounted at one end adjacent to a passage wall of the air intake passage. The air intake control valve is configured to control a gas flow based on the rotational position of the valve element. A horizontal partitioning plate extends along the flow direction of an intake air. The horizontal partitioning plate can be stationary or moveable with the valve element. The valve element has a swirl-producing notch and a vertical partitioning plate extends substantially perpendicular to the horizontal partitioning plate from a position corresponding to a vertical side edge of the swirl-producing notch when the air intake control valve is fully closed. The vertical partitioning plate can be stationary or moveable with the valve element.

摘要: An ignition system for internal combustion engines of the type in which after the energizing current flow to the primary winding of an ignition coil has been interrupted and an ignition spark generating high voltage has been produced in the secondary winding, the primary winding is energized again to interrupt the ignition spark. The ignition spark is interrupted at around the TDC only when the engine is at high speed operating conditions and the deenergizing current in the primary winding is not interrupted in a moment but decreased gradually. Also, the ignition spark is interrupted only when the ignition spark is to continue beyond the top dead center.

摘要: A method for producing 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde from glycerin in high conversion ratio is provided. The method is characterized by comprising a step of dehydrating glycerin using a microbial cell and/or a treated microbial cell containing diol dehydratase and/or glycerol dehydratase, and optionally diol dehydratase reactivating factor and/or glycerol dehydratase reactivating factor, under conditions so as to give a value (X/Y2) calculated by dividing a catalytic amount [X (U/g glycerin)] of diol dehydratase and/or glycerol dehydratase by square of glycerin concentration [Y (g/100 ml)] within a range of 10 to 8,000, to produce 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde.

摘要: An internal combustion engine of a vehicle is provided with an exhaust cleaning apparatus and control method. In the exhaust cleaning apparatus and method, exhaust from a combustion chamber is conducted to a main catalytic converter disposed in a main exhaust channel. A fuel cutting operation is performed upon determining a deceleration state in the vehicle and establishment of a condition for stopping fuel supply to the engine. Then, a main-channel blocking device closes the main exhaust channel so that the exhaust flows through a bypass catalytic converter disposed in a bypass exhaust channel upstream from the main catalytic converter and then merges again with the main exhaust channel upstream from the main catalytic converter after the fuel cutting operation and upon determining one of either an elapsed of a prescribed period of time, or an air-fuel ratio of the exhaust reaching a stable state.

摘要: A spark plug system includes a center spark plug and a plurality of peripheral spark plugs, the spark plugs extending into a ridge-roof type combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine from the inner surface of a cylinder head and being disposed approximately on the ridgeline of the ridge-roof. The amount by which the center plug projects into the combustion chamber from the inner surface of the cylinder head is different from the amount by which each of the peripheral plugs projects into the combustion chamber from the inner surface of the cylinder head, whereby the time in which the flame propagation of the center plug reaches the flame propagation of the peripheral plugs is delayed.

摘要: An air intake structure is provided with an air intake control valve disposed in the air intake passage. 摘要: The invention comprises at least two independent intake ports 14a, 14b connected to a combustion chamber 15, two intake valves 12a, 12b, and two exhaust valves 13a, 13b. A first fuel injection valve 31a is provided in the first intake port 14a and a second intake control valve 26 is provided for opening and closing the second intake port 14b. When the engine is in the cold condition, the second intake control valve 26 is slightly opened and fuel is injected from the first fuel injection valve 31b. Air-fuel mixture from the first intake port 14a and a smaller amount of fresh air from the second intake port 14b are introduced [into the combustion chamber], and the overall air-fuel ratio inside the combustion chamber is controlled to become slightly lean.
