During acceleration of the vehicle wherein target device shaft torque is not negative, a target engine torque for generating target drive shaft torque is calculated, and a target throttle opening degree for providing target engine torque is determined. On the other hand, during deceleration of the vehicle wherein target drive shaft torque is negative, a target throttle opening degree is determined from accelerator pedal opening degree at which the drive shaft torque is zero and the throttle opening degree at which the engine torque is zero. This target throttle opening degree is in a proportional relation to the accelerator pedal opening degree and thus when accelerator pedal opening degree target throttle opening degree.

A fuel injection amount control system for an internal combustion engine includes an ECU which calculates a desired amount of fuel to be supplied to each combustion chamber in response to operating conditions of the engine, and calculates values of parameters indicative of fuel adherence characteristics of the interior of the intake passage in response to operating conditions of the engine. The ECU further calculates a first fuel amount which is directly drawn into the combustion chamber from a fuel amount injected by the fuel injection valve, and a second amount of fuel which is carried off the wall surface of the intake passage due to evaporation and drawn into the combustion chamber, based upon the values of the parameters. The ECU calculates an injection amount of fuel to be injected, by correcting the desired fuel amount, based upon the first and second fuel amounts. When the engine is in a predetermined operating condition in which convergence of the fuel injection amount calculated by the ECU to the desired fuel amount can be unstable, the value of at least one of the parameters such that the fuel injection amount stably converges to the desired fuel amount.

The air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine is forcibly oscillated at a predetermined frequency and a predetermined amplitude. At least one of the predetermined frequency and the predetermined amplitude is changed at a predetermined rate of change. A predetermined rate of change of the at least one of the predetermined frequency and the predetermined amplitude is set in dependence on the maximum oxygen storage amount to thereby secure the maximum purification rate of the catalytic converter.

In the vehicle control system, an electric control device is formed comprising a cooperative control ECU which acts as a server apparatus and a plurality of subsystems which are connected to this cooperative control ECU and act as client apparatuses. The plurality of subsystems comprise, for example, a motor control ECU, a reactive gas supply control ECU, an electrical power distribution control ECU, and a cell voltage detection control ECU. Each of the ECUs which forms each of the subsystems carries out I/O processing for the control signals that are sent to and received from the cooperative control ECU and shut down processing and protective processing during abnormal operation such as a network stoppage. The cooperative ECU carries out control operations for controlling each of the ECUs and the controlled objects based on control signals obtained from the I/O processing of each of the ECUs.

The basic fuel amount is corrected based on the correction coefficient.
