The blend of partially oxygenated compounds is provided to a reactive scrubbing station where it is contacted with a reactive scrubbing liquid to form a reactive liquid-formaldehyde compound. The reactive liquid-formaldehyde compound is then removed from the first blend of partially reactive compounds.

Techniques, systems, apparatus, and materials are disclosed for generating multi-purpose liquid fuel for isolating contaminants and storing energy. In one aspect, a method of producing a liquid fuel includes forming a gaseous fuel (e.g., by dissociating biomass waste using waste heat recovered from an external heat source). Carbon dioxide emitted from an industrial process can be harvested and reacted with the gaseous fuel to generate the liquid fuel. A hazardous contaminant can be dissolved in the liquid fuel, with the liquid fuel operating as a solvent or continuous phase for a solution or colloid that isolates the hazardous contaminant from the environment. The hazardous contaminant can include at least one of a carbon donor and a hydrogen donor.

A novel reformer is provided. A gas fuel is guided from a fuel channel. Air and water are guided from a liquid/gas channel. They are mixed together in a mixing space. On mixing them, the temperature of the mixing space is between 150° C. and 300° C. Thus, the reactants are preheated and fully mixed; and a proper temperature is reached to avoid local over-heating and to prevent carbon deposited.

The apparatus further includes a flashback member disposed within the mixer housing and between the output of the precursor delivery chamber and the output of the oxidizing gas delivery chamber. The flashback member is located at a minimum distance from the output of the oxidizing gas delivery chamber defined by Lminimum (cm)=0.453 U (Re)−0.5567, wherein U is the flow rate in cm/sec of precursor and Re is the flow Reynolds number. The flashback member may include a tapered surface on at least one side to reduce recirculation of vaporized gas.

The converter features a relatively thin annular heating zone surrounding a reaction chamber. Within the annular heating zone is a heating element that has an annular conformation about the reaction chamber. The design allows high convective heat transfer, which facilitates the use of lower heating element surface temperatures, prolonging the life of the equipment, reducing capital cost by allowing use of a smaller reactor, and greatly improving heating efficiency. A heat exchanger with a plurality of heat exchanger blocks provides further efficiency.

A hydrocarbon-containing gas is mixed with an oxygen gas in a gas mixer in the presence of coarse water droplet environment, e.g., a ‘rainy’ or ‘driving rainstorm’ environment in which the water droplets generally have a size greater than 200 microns SMD. The water droplets surround and contact entrained particles in either the oxygen gas stream or the hydrocarbon-containing gas stream. The water acts to suppress, prevent and quench ignition of the hydrocarbon gas in the mixer which would otherwise be caused by energetic collisions between such particles and structures within the gas mixer. In one configuration the gas mixer includes water pipes having coarse water droplet-producing nozzles at the peripheral end thereof concentrically located within oxygen supply pipes. Additionally, nozzles introduce coarse water droplets into a pipe carrying the hydrocarbon gas and forming a mixing chamber for the hydrocarbon and oxygen gases.

The invention relates to a method for generating ultrapure steam by oxidation of hydrogen in a closed torch with separate feed lines for hydrogen and oxygen and a discharge line for discharging the steam which is formed to a process chamber. The invention also relates to an arrangement for carrying out the method. The invention is intended to provide a method which is simple to implement and an arrangement for generating ultrapure steam which results in a significantly extended injector service life. For this purpose, oxygen and water are fed to the torch in a slightly superstoichiometric ratio, and pure additional oxygen is admixed with the steam formed during the combustion, when it enters the process chamber, in order to generate a considerable excess of oxygen in the steam. The associated device comprises a torch with feed lines for feeding hydrogen and oxygen to the closed torch and a discharge line leading to a process chamber. Each feed line being assigned a mass flow controller. The discharge line leading to a process chamber is connected to an additional oxygen feed line, which is also provided with a mass flow controller.
