Provided are methods for linking polypeptides (including peptides and proteins) to other moieties using radical imitated thiol-ene chemistries, for example, modifying a polypeptide by introducing reactive thiol groups and reacting the thiol groups with olefin-containing reagents or alkyne-containing reagents under conditions that support radical thiol-ene or thiol-yne reactions. The reactive thiol groups have greater activity for radical thiol-ene reactions that a cysteine thiol group, including thiol groups that are separated from the peptide backbone by at least two carbon atoms, for example, the thiol group of a homocysteine residue. Also provided are compositions and biomaterials containing the linked polypeptides, for example, peptide and protein conjugates, and thiol-ene based biocompatible hydrogel polymers, and their uses in the medical field.

An antistatic adhesive composition includes a polyalkyleneglycol compound having one or more carboxyl group or thiol group in a molecule, an acryl copolymer, a cross-linking agent, and an antistatic agent. The antistatic composition exhibits excellent antistatic property, as well as significantly improving adhesiveness, thus to exhibit superior durability even at a high temperature. A polarizing plate fabricated using the antistatic composition is also provided.

Methods for making biomaterials for use as a tissue sealant, kits containing precursors for forming the biomaterials, and the resulting biomaterials are described herein. The biomaterials are formed from a composition comprising at least a first and a second precursor molecule, wherein: i) the first precursor molecule is a poly(ethylene glycol) based polymer having x nucleophilic groups selected from the group consisting of thiol or amino groups, wherein x is greater than or equal to 2 ii) the second precursor molecule is of the general formula: A-[(C3H6O)n—(C2H4O)m—B]i wherein m and n are integers from 1 to 200 i is greater than 2 A is a branch point B is a conjugated unsaturated group The precursors are selected based on the desired properties of the biomaterial. Multifunctional compounds are provided that readily crosslink in situ to provide crosslinked biomaterials. The multifunctional compounds contain a single component having at least three reactive functional groups thereon, with the functional groups selected so as to be non-reactive in an initial environment and inter-reactive in a modified environment. Reaction of a plurality of the multifunctional compounds results in a three-dimensional crosslinked matrix. In one embodiment, a first functional group is nucleophilic, a second functional group is electrophilic, and at least one additional functional group is nucleophilic or electrophilic. Methods for preparing and using the multifunctional compounds, and kits including the multifunctional compounds are also provided. Exemplary uses for the multifunctional compounds include tissue augmentation, biologically active agent delivery, bioadhesion, and prevention of adhesions following surgery or injury.

The present invention provides both crosslinked polymer compositions capable of forming hydrogels upon exposure to an aqueous environment and thiosulfonate hydrogel-forming components. The thiosulfonate hydrogel-forming components of the invention are preferably multi-arm thiosulfonate polymer derivatives that form a crosslinked polymer composition when exposed to a base without requiring the presence of a second cross-linking reagent, redox catalyst, or radiation. Methods for forming hydrogel compositions, as well as methods for using the hydrogels, are also provided.

A method of developing degradable linear poly(ethylene glycol) PEG (DPEG) with multiple functioning capacities, which can be used as drug carriers for cancer cell delivery. A DPEG may be effective in targeting cancerous tumors through an enhanced permeation and retention effect (EPR). The DPEG will then degrade in the acidic extracellular fluid of solid tumors leading to fast cellular internalizations, finally degrading in the lysosome for efficient renal clearance. These may be used in conjunction with drugs and/or targeting groups. Furthermore, DPEGs are thermoresponsive, on an as needed basis, making them useful for in vivo application.
