Abstract:
The present invention provides a method to reduce adhesion between a conformable region on a substrate and a pattern of a mold, which selectively comes into contact with the conformable region. The method features forming a conformable material on the substrate and contacting the conformable material with the surface. A conditioned layer is formed from the conformable material. The conditioned layer has first and second sub-portions, with the first sub-portion being solidified and the second sub-portion having a first affinity for the surface and a second affinity for the first sub-portion. The first affinity is greater than the second affinity. In this fashion, upon separation of the mold from the conditioned layer, a subset of the second sub-portion maintains contact with the mold, thereby reducing the probability that a pattern formed in the conditioned layer becomes compromised. These and other embodiments are described herein.

A molding technique for copper interconnecting wires by electrochemical displacement deposition on the pre-shaped metal layer in accordance with the present invention is used to form an adhering layer on a substrate and a sacrificial layer on the adhering layer. The sacrificial layer is patterned according to the copper interconnecting wires and displaced to form the copper interconnecting wires in a specific chemical solution.
Abstract:
A polymeric web exhibiting a soft and silky tactile impression on at least one side thereof is disclosed. The silky feeling side of the web exhibits a pattern of discrete hair-like fibrils each of the hair-like fibrils being a protruded extension of the web surface and having a side wall defining an open proximal portion and a closed distal portion. The hair-like fibrils exhibit a maximum lateral cross-sectional diameter of between 2 and 5 mils, and an aspect ratio from 1 to 3. Methods and apparatus for making the polymeric web utilize a three-dimensional forming structure having a plurality of protrusions being generally columnar forms having an average aspect ratio of at least about 1.
Abstract:
An image-receiving layer composition is coated on a surface of a substrate of an ink-jet recording medium, used to form an image with the ink-jet system, to form an image-receiving layer. The composition includes an epoxy compound, an oxetane compound and a photo-cationic polymerization initiator. The composition is cured with an active energy beam. An image of an ink is formed on the image-receiving layer. Further, an overcoat layer is formed on the image. Also the ink and the overcoat layer may include an epoxy compound, an oxetane compound and a photo-cationic polymerization initiator.
Abstract:
A rotary cutter assembly (11) includes a rotary cutter (74) rotated by a motor (76) through a drive including pulleys (250, 264) and a belt (326) inside of a combination guard and belt tensioner assembly (260). The rotary cutter (74) includes a cutter head (82) having integral blade holders (92) which slideably receive knives (90) in a channel (230) each having a detent (236) which is received in an aperture (91) in the knife (90) so that no fasteners or moveable parts are provided for holding the knives (90) and adjustment of the knives (90) is not needed or allowed. Guard quarters (266, 314) and a guard half (268) are moveable between closed and open positions and are held in the closed position by a single latch (325). The guard half (268) includes an idler (300) which tensions the belt (326) in the closed position. The second guard quarter (314) is mounted upon a pivotable cover (306) which together with the mount (262) for the motor (76) defines an enclosure for the rotary cutter (74) and the food products cut thereby and abuts with the guard half (268) in their closed positions.
Abstract:
A flow tube for an induction system with a turbo charger includes a first tube half and a second tube half with a noise attenuation plate positioned between the halves. The noise attenuation plate includes a plurality of holes having varying diameter and depths. The first tube half, the second tube half, and the noise attenuation plate are integrally formed as a single piece during an injection molding process. The noise attenuation plate is folding along a first living hinge to overlap one of the first or second tube halves. The other of the first or second tube halves is folded along a second living hinge to overlap the noise attenuation plate forming a flow tube that defines a flow path. The noise attenuation plate is thus positioned in the flow path. When acoustic energy created by the turbo charger encounters the noise attenuation plate, the change in impedance results in acoustic reflections back toward the turbo charger. Thus the noise attenuation plate serves as a low pass filter that attenuates high frequencies while allowing lower frequencies through.

A scoring system consisting of a die base and one or more dies. The die base consisting of a soft material and is recessed to accept one or more of the dies as needed. Each die is consisted of scorers arranged in a way to score material accurately.
Abstract:
Bellows-shaped pleats are formed by a corrugator on bellows portions of a cylindrical hose formed by extrusion from a thermoplastic resin. The height of the pleats of the hose is uniform in a circumferential direction, and the numbers of the pleats on the bellows portions are different from one another. When water is encapsulated in the hose and the hose is heated, the pleats having different circumferential shapes from one another are stretched by the pressure of a vapor generated from the water, whereby the bellows portions of the hose are bent automatically with the portions corresponding to generating lines and free from the pleats being on an inner side. The bending angle at that time is determined depending on the numbers of the pleats. Thus, it is possible to provide a resinous hose at a low cost, which is formed, so that even if the hose is used in a high-temperature and a high-pressure environment, the bent shape of the hose can be maintained over a long period of time.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed of controlling the thermohysteresis of a homogeneous or layered fibrous pre-form, comprised at least in part of thermoplastic staple length fibers, such that the physical properties of the resulting molded three-dimensional compound construct are significantly enhanced. In particular, the thermohysteresis is the result of a specific thermal history comprising the treatment of a fibrous pre-form with an elevated temperature incubation period followed by a cooling period. A so-treated fibrous pre-form can be subsequently molded by conventional thermomolding methods to render improved toughness, strength and structural stability to a resulting molded construct.
Abstract:
A pair of form keys and a method for forming reverse drafts in foam parts are disclosed. A male form key is reciprocally mounted in a first mold half in a retracted position. A female form key is rotatably mounted in a second mold half in a neutral position. The first mold half includes a first drive pin that when engaged, moves the male form key into engagement with a foam sheet to form an undercut as the first and second mold halves are closed. The first mold half also includes a second drive pin that engages the female form key as the first and second mold halves close rotating the female form key into engagement with the foam sheet and the male form key. After closure of the mold and the product is formed, the mold is opened. As this occurs, the drive pins are disengaged and the male form key retracts and the female form key rotates to their neutral positions. The formed product may then be stripped from the mold while maintaining the reverse draft or undercut. In a further embodiment the male form key and the female form key are fluid actuated.
