摘要: The inventive signal incorporates an intelligent diagnosis module inside a light emitting diode (LED) signal, such as an LED traffic signal. The inventive signal can self-extinguish or send a signal through its communication port at the end of its useful life when the LEDs are no longer providing the required light output. Additionally, the inventive signal sends a signal to increase the current as the LEDs degrade to ensure the light output is above a threshold minimum.

摘要: A light signal with a luminous device and a first optical system for displaying signal indications on rail-bound traffic routes is provided. To allow different types of luminous devices to be used while retaining the first optical system, a second optical system is arranged between the luminous device and the first optical system. The focal point of the second optical system essentially coincides with a focal point of the first optical system on a light entry side.

摘要: A LED signal lamp that monitors, controls and tests the operational status of a plurality of LEDs. A separate current source is provided for each LED and resistors are in series between the current sources and LEDs. Analog-to-digital converters monitor the voltages at the resistors and LEDs and convert the voltages to digital form for a data processor. The data processor determines the junction temperature of each LED, controls the amount of current supplied to each LED and tests the operational status of each LED by matching its characteristics to a known diode curve. A pulse-width modulator provides further control of the amount of power supplied to the current sources. The data processor further controls a vital disconnect and a vital load. An energy storage/limiter circuit stores energy for the data processor during the absence of normal power input. Related methods of monitoring, controlling and testing such an LED system are also disclosed.

摘要: An electrically driven L.E.D. lamp assembly (14) comprising an electrically insulating circuit board (26) having opposed first and second surfaces with light emitting diodes (28) having positive and negative leads (30, 32) mounted on the first surface. A plurality of pads (50) of thermally conductive plating are disposed on the second side with each pad (50) associated with the leads to conduct heat from each of the leads to one of the pads (50). A heat sink includes a base (36) overlying the second surface and layers (56, 58) of thermally conductive and electrically non-conductive material are disposed between the conductive plating and the heat sink (36) to secure the conductive plating and the circuit board (26) to the heat sink (36) while preventing a short between the conductive plating (50) and the heat sink (36). The assembly is characterized by a thermally insulating material (44) disposed over the heat sink (36) for sandwiching the heat sink against the conductive plating (50) to limit heat transfer into the heat sink from the outside.

摘要: A railroad searchlight signal for producing light signals of selected colors. The searchlight uses a reflector that has an inner surface of reflective material and a focal point. One or more light emitting diodes are provided at the reflector focal point. When a current is supplied to the light emitting diode from a variable current power source, a light having a color that varies dependent upon the current is produced. The colored light produced at the light emitting diode is then directed outward of the reflector as a beam. At least one color filter that allows light of a respective color to pass therethrough is preferably provided proximate the reflector. Light that passes through the color filter is detected by a light detector such as a photovoltaic cell, a phototransistor or a photodiode.

摘要: An improved railroad signal system is described in which a train is allowed to approach a block even if a red light is activated for the block. A white numbered light is activated indicating the maximum permissible speed of the train. The system includes a home clearing relay and a station timing relay which are activated by two separate circuits thereby eliminating a wire loop.

摘要: A periodic current generator is connected with a long power supply line through a first transformer. The lamp of the traffic light is connected to the long line through a second transformer. First and second safety capacitors with four terminals each are respectively arranged in series on the long line with the first and second transformers. A DC current is generated by a detector when the lamp is operating. The detector is connected to one of the capacitors and the DC current passes through the long line to the second capacitor across which the coil of a relay is connected. The relay is actuated by the DC current and sends information concerning the status of the lamp to a central control station.

摘要: The separate reflector and light bulb components presently used in flashing-light signal apparatus employed at railway crossings are replaced by a sealed-beam type incandescent reflector lamp having a window-aperture in the concave reflector portion of the lamp envelope which is adapted to be aligned with a side opening in the lamp-housing of the signaling apparatus and thus permits the operation of the light source inside the sealed-beam lamp to be checked visually by the engineer of an approaching train. Additional cost and functional advantages are obtained by also making the separate red-colored lens component of the signal apparatus an integral part of the sealed-beam warning lamp and by using a long-life halogen-cycle type lamp component as the light source within the sealed-beam reflector envelope.
