    Abstract: A resin composition for use in a coating composition comprising (A) a base resin having a hydroxyl value of 20 to 200, (B) a silicone compound consisting of a partial hydrolysis.condensation product of (i) an organofunctional group-containing alkoxysilane compound containing at least one organofunctional group selected from the group consisting of mercapto group, epoxy group, (meth)acryloyl group, vinyl group, haloalkyl group and amino group, (ii) a tetraalkoxysilane compound and preferably (iii) a trialkoxysilane compound, and (C) a reaction product prepared by partly reacting the hydroxyl group in the base resin (A) with alkoxysilyl group in the silicone compound (B).

    Abstract: A curable composition comprising(A) a vinyl resin having at least one hydrolyzable silyl group in one molecule wherein the main chain substantially consists of a vinyl polymer and having no segment of a resin which has polymerizable double bonds at both ends of the main chain and a glass transition temperature of not more than 0.degree. C.;(B) a modified resin having at least one hydrolyzable silyl group in one molecule which is obtained by polymerizing(a) a resin having polymerizable double bonds at both ends of the main chain and a glass transition temperature of not more than O.degree. C.,(b) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl monomer, and(c) a vinyl monomer having no hydrolyzable silyl group; and(C) a curing catalyst. The composition of the present invention enables to prepare a top coating having the excellent physical property balance between hardness and impact resistance or that between elongation and stain resistance.

    Abstract: Improved curing catalysts are disclosed for use in a coating composition containing a film-forming organosilane polymer. The catalysts can cure hydrolytically stable compositions, which do not prematurely gell by moisture. The coating composition can be used as a one package clearcoat over a conventional pigmented basecoat, or as a basecoat, monocoat or primer when a suitable amount of pigment is incorporated therein. The coating composition provides improved properties, including increased chemical etch resistance.

    Abstract: Disclosed are essentially zinc-free, organic coating compositions based on silicon-containing polyols comprising reaction products of hydrophobic polyols, organosilicon-containing materials, and higher monohydric alcohols, R-OH. The organosilicon-containing material comprises an organosilicon-containing substance free of certain functional groups attached directly to carbon and essentially free of alkali metal ions. The organosilicon-containing substance has atoms bonded directly to Si all of which are selected from O, N, and/or Cl. The organosilicon-containing substance also has moieties directly bonded to Si which are displaceable by reaction with water and/or alcohol. The reaction product is not capable of being gelled when subjected to a specific gel test, has a content of hydroxyl groups from the hydrophobic polyol ranging from 0.4 to 10 milliequivalents per gram of reaction product, has a content of groups, --OR, from the higher monofunctional alcohol ranging from 0.1 to 7 milliequivalents per gram of reaction product, and a content of the moieties directly bonded to Si which are displaceable of less than 1 milliequivalent per gram of reaction product.The organic coating composition also contains a curing agent for for the silicon-containing polyol selected from the group consisting of an aminoplast, a phenoplast, an isocyanate, a blocked isocyanate, a semi-blocked isocyanate, a lower-alkoxy-containing silane, and a hydrolyzed lower- alkoxy-containing silane.The coating composition is essentially free of elemental zinc and cures to an essentially organic coating.

    Abstract: The invention described herein generally pertains to a composition that includes a silyl-terminated polymer having silyl groups linked to a polymer backbone via triazole. The silyl-terminated polymer is a reaction product of a functionalized polymer backbone and a functionalized silane. The polymer backbone includes a first functional group, which may be one of an azide or an alkyne. The functionalized silane includes a second functional group may also be one of an azide or an alkyne, but is also different from the first functional group. The functionalized polymer backbone is reacted with the functionalized silane in the presence of a metal catalyst.
