    Abstract: A pilot transmission scheme is presented where during a first OFDM symbol period a first pilot sequence is transmitted over a first multiple sub-carriers on a first group of antennas. During a second OFDM symbol period, a second pilot sequence is transmitted over a second multiple sub-carriers on a second group of antennas. The first and the second groups of antennas only transmit one pilot sequence every subframe of M OFDM symbol periods.

    Abstract: A photocathode as a source of electron beams, having a substrate of optically transmissive diamond and a photoemitter. A photocathode with a single emitting region provides a single electron beam; a photocathode with multiple emitting regions provides multiple electron beams. The photoemitter is positioned on the side of the diamond substrate opposite the surface on which the illumination is incident, and has an irradiation region at the contact with the optically transmissive diamond, and an emission region opposite the irradiation region, these regions being defined by the path of the illumination. The diamond substrate at the irradiation region/emission region interface conducts heat away from this focused region of illumination on the photocathode. Alternately, a diamond film is used for heat conduction, while another material is used as a substrate to provide structural support. The thermal conductivity of diamond is at least three orders of magnitude greater than that of fused silica, which is an alternative substrate material for photocathodes. This allows for efficient conduction of heat away from the irradiation region/emission region interface, and therefore allows higher currents to be achieved from the photocathode. This, in turn, permits higher throughput rates in applications including electron beam lithography.

    Abstract: Systems and techniques for carrier aggregated beamforming using elevation control. A base station determines a first elevation to be used for transmission to a user device using a first carrier, for example, based on information received from the user device. A second elevation, for transmission to the user device based on the second carrier, is determined based at least in part on the elevation information determined for the first carrier. The first and second carriers may be used by the same base station or by different base stations, and using elevation information determined for the first carrier to determine elevation information for the second carrier avoids computation and signaling needed for separate determination of the elevation information for the second carrier.

    Abstract: An anti-flicker and anti-glow switchable load apparatus to be installed in the light socket of a commonly powered electronic switching device, such as a motion activated light switch. An energy efficient light bulb or lamp, such as a cathode fluorescent lamp or light emitting diode is then screwed into the apparatus. A first embodiment of the present invention includes a switchable light source, a switchable load, a controller, and a voltage sensor. When the present invention in the first embodiment detects a higher voltage, thus indicating the lamp has been switched from the “off” state to the on state, the switchable load is disconnected, and the current is re-routed to pass through the energy efficient lamp.

    Abstract: A method and system that enables the usage of sounding-based feedback or analog feedback in a MIMO communication system with non-beamformed or broadcast pilot symbols is disclosed. The mobile station may employ a feedback channel to send a sounding waveform to a base station, a feedforward channel to receive from the base station codebook weights derived from the send sounding waveform, a receiver to receive communication from the base station, and a processor to detect beamformed data from the received communication and received codebook weights from the base station. The base station processes the sounding waveform to determine codebook weights on groups of subcarriers. Additionally, the base station transmits the beamformed payload and broadcast pilots to the mobile station.
