    摘要: Process for making organic solvent-free aqueous crosslinkable polymer composition comprising: a) preparing an aqueous solution of an acid-functional olgiomer with Tg below 50.degree. C. and having crosslinker functional groups; b) conducting an aqueous emulsion polymerisation to make an aqueous emulsion of an olefinic hydrophobic polymer in the presence of the aqueous oligomer solution, the hydrophobic polymer having Tg at least 25.degree. C. higher than that of the oligomer and optionally crosslinker functional groups, and c) combining with a crosslinking agent reactable with the crosslinker groups of the oligomer and polymer, said composition having Koenig hardness of .gtoreq.40 sec and minimum film forming temperature (MFFT).ltoreq.55.degree. C. Also the aqueous composition so formed and its use in various applications. The aqueous composition has excellent properties and in particular an advantageous balance of MFFT and Koenig hardness.

    摘要: Process for the production of an aqueous polymer emulsion which process comprises: a) preparing a low molecular weight polymer containing acid-functional groups using a free-radical polymerisation process which employs a free-radical initiator and, for the purpose of controlling molecular weight, a transition metal chelate complex, wherein said low molecular weight polymer has a number average molecular weight within the range of from 500 to 50,000; b) conducting an aqueous emulsion polymerisation process to form an aqueous emulsion of a hydrophobic polymer from at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer, wherein the low molecular weight polymer of step a) is introduced to the aqueous medium of said emulsion polymerisation process before the start of and/or during said emulsion polymerisation process and becomes dissolved or dispersed in said aqueous medium.

    摘要: The invention relates to an aqueous emulsion comprising at least a vinyl polymer, said vinyl polymer comprising: a) 45 to 99 wt % of itaconate ester monomers having formula (I), wherein R and R′ are independently an alkyl or an aryl group; b) 0.1 to 15 wt % of ionic or potentially ionic unsaturated monomers; c) 0 to 54 wt % of unsaturated monomers, different from a) and b); and 0.9 to 54.9 wt % by weight of total monomers of a chaser monomer composition added subsequently and polymerized after the polymerization of monomers a), b) and c); wherein a)+b)+c) and the chaser monomer composition add up to 100%; and wherein the aqueous emulsion contains less than 0.5 wt % free itaconate ester monomers of formula I based on the total weight of the aqueous emulsion.

    摘要: An aqueous coating composition (which optionally can coat plastic substrates) the composition comprising a block copolymer and a polymer P; where the block copolymer comprises at least blocks [A]x[B]y; where at least block [A] is obtained by a controlled radical polymerisation of at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer via a reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) mechanism (optionally in solution in the presence of a control agent and a source of free radicals); and wherein block [A] comprises 20 to 100 mol % of ethylenically unsaturated monomer units bearing water-dispersing functional groups; wherein block [B] comprises 20 to 100 mol % of ethylenically unsaturated monomer units bearing plastic adhesion promoting functional groups; and wherein polymer P is prepared in the presence of blocks [A]x[B]y. The compositions may be used to coat plastic substrates, foam; surfaces having low surface energy, hydrophobic substrates and/or polyolefins.
