    Abstract: A fuel filter includes mating housing portions defining an interior cavity. A pipe in the housing includes a central flow passage with an opening along the length of the pipe, and an exterior groove. A latch device with discrete fingers closely surrounds the pipe and is engageable with the groove to prevent the latch device (68) from moving axially along the pipe. The latch device has an annular sleeve, radially-outwardly spaced from the fingers. A moveable valve device surrounds the pipe and has a valve sleeve normally covering the opening in the pipe. An annular base on the sleeve includes radially projecting tabs defining a plurality of slots. A filter element is removeably located in the housing and has an end cap with a valve actuating portion. The valve actuating portion includes a cylindrical portion and an annular base projecting radially inward from the cylindrical portion. The valve actuating portion includes a plurality of thin, flat keys spaced around the annular base and projecting radially inward from the cylindrical portion and axially outward from the base. The keys have first portions which project through the slots in the valve device and engage the sleeve of the latch device to unlock the latch device from the pipe, and second portions which engage the base of the valve device and move the valve device to uncover the opening in the pipe, when the filter element is inserted into the housing.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to certain biphenyl compounds. Specifically, the invention is directed to compounds according to Formula I: wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, and Y are as defined below, and to pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof. The compounds of the invention are KSP inhibitors, particularly human KSP inhibitors, and can be useful for the treatment for a variety of diseases and conditions, such as cancer, hyperplasias, restenosis, cardiac hypertrophy, immune disorders, fungal disorders, and inflammation. Accordingly, the invention is further directed to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of the invention. The invention is still further directed to methods of inhibiting KSP and treatment of conditions associated therewith using a compound of the invention or a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of the invention. In an additional aspect, the invention provides methods of screening for compounds that will bind to a KSP kinesin, for example compounds that will displace or compete with the binding of the compounds of the invention. The methods comprise combining a labeled compound of the invention, a KSP kinesin, and at least one candidate agent and determining the binding of the candidate bioactive agent to the KSP kinesin. In a further aspect, the invention provides methods of screening for modulators of KSP kinesin activity. The methods comprise combining a compound of the invention, a KSP kinesin, and at least one candidate agent and determining the effect of the candidate bioactive agent on the KSP kinesin activity.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a wax motor actuated valve assembly for controlling the flow of coolant to a heater core or cores until the coolant reaches a predetermined operating temperature. The wax motor actuated valve has particular application to vehicle cabin heating systems comprising front and rear heat exchangers (cores) over which air can pass for heating front and rear portions of the cabin, respectively. Initially, flow to the rear heat exchanger is shut off until the temperature of the coolant reaches a predetermined elevated temperature, whereby initial coolant flow is directed to the front heat exchanger for more rapid heating of the forward portion of the vehicle cabin. After the predetermined elevated temperature has been reached, the wax motor valve assembly is actuated to supply coolant to the rear heat exchanger for heating the rear portion of the vehicle cabin.
