A latex for immobilization of a physiologically active substance is prepared by copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising:(a) 100 parts by weight of an aromatic vinyl monome4r;(b) 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of a vinyl monomer having a sulfonic acid group;(c) 1 to 20 parts by weight of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer; and(d) 0.05 to 5 parts by weight of a polyfunctional monomer for internal cross-linking; in water using a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator in the absence of an emulsifying agent. An antigen or antibody or a hapten can be covalently bound to particles of the latex to form a reagent for use in immuno nephelometry.

An aqueous resin emulsion is disclosed. The emulsion is obtained by emulsion copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising (a) an acrylic acid fluoroalkyl ester derivative, (b) an acrylic acid derivative, and (c) a polyfunctional monomer for internal cross-linking, in an aqueous medium. The emulsion shows excellent polymerization stability in emulsion copolymerization for the preparation thereof and excellent dispersion stability in an aqueous medium.

The premature vulcanization of rubber materials is substantially inhibited by incorporating therein a sulfenamide of the formula: ##SPC1##Wherein R, which may be the same or different, is alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms. The preferred sulfenamide is N-phenythio-3,5-lupetidine. Said sulfenamide is incorporated into the rubber with or without a conventional vulcanization accelerator and is preferably employed in the form of a powder preparation adsorbed in an inorganic carrier.
