A longitudinally extending nonwoven tape comprising longitudinally extending tacking strands supporting a multiplicity of transverse filament bundles. The tape is manufactured by continuously depositing adhering coated tacking strands onto both sides of a continuous moving double band and continuously winding filament bundles over said strands and around said band. The band is passed between rollers and heated to bond the filament to the tacking stand. The band is then passed against a cutter which serves the wound filaments between the bands and permits the longitudinally extending tape to be removed from the band. The tape is used to provide longitudinal reinforcement of reinforced plastic pipe by winding the tape around the mandrel in the pipe fabrication process.

Freestanding microporous thin films, made using plastic waste, can be used as a hydrophobic coating, filtration membranes, or oil-sorbents. A method for producing the microporous thin film involves dissolving the plastic in an organic solvent to obtain a solution; and applying the solution onto a solid substrate through spin-coating followed by controlled heating, resulting in a freestanding porous thin film. Plastic waste comprises recycled polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or polystyrene (PS), recovered from a waste plastic material derived from post-consumer and/or industrial waste. The approach of fabricating multi-functional thin films from plastic waste combines an effective way to address multiple environmental issues simultaneously.

The invention provides a system (1) and method for manufacturing a stent. A spraying device (14) sprays a polymeric suspension (16) onto a mandrel (4). During spraying of the polymeric suspension (16) onto the mandrel (4), the mandrel (4) is manipulated by a micromanipulator (8) to produce a continuous coating on the mandrel (4) having a nonuniform thickness. The polymeric coating is allowed to cure on the mandrel (4) to form the stent, which is then removed from the mandrel (4). The method can comprise embedding a filament (2) in the polymeric coating and incorporating one or more drugs in the stent.

In an apparatus for manufacturing a scaffold and a scaffold manufactured by the apparatus, a collector is disposed under a dispensing head that dispenses melted bio materials (polymer) for manufacturing the scaffold. The collector has a cylindrical tube shape. Both sides of the tube shape are fixed. Thus, the tube is securely fixed and bending of the tube is prevented. Also, accuracy and preciseness of the scaffold are improved.
