    摘要: A device for varying a valve timing and lift for an internal combustion engine comprises a first valve lifter and a second valve lifter, and an oil pressure chamber being defined between the first valve lifter and the second valve lifter. The flow of oil from the oil pressure chamber is continuously and steplessly controlled through a high-speed response control valve in an oil extraction passage. While the oil is being removed, the valve does not lift. When the high-speed response control valve is closed, the first valve lifter and the second valve lifter move together and the valve begins to lift. By controlling the action of the actuator of the high-speed response control valve, the valve timing and lift of the poppet valve can be controlled to the optimum ones matching the engine operating conditions.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder block and a cylinder head. A combustion chamber is formed in the cylinder block and the cylinder head. An accumulation chamber is formed within the cylinder head and communicated with the combustion chamber via an operating valve. The accumulation chamber is disposed adjacent to an exhaust port of the engine and is heat exchangeable with the exhaust port. The operating valve is opened approximately at the time the compression stroke is commenced and is closed approximately at the time the compression stroke is completed. A cap is disposed at the entrance of the accumulation chamber and has a plurality of jets formed thereon. The compressed combustible gas mixture is accumulated within the accumulation chamber, heated by the heat transmitted from the exhaust port and spouted out into the combustion chamber, so that approximately uniform turbulences are generated in the combustion chamber and the flame speed is increased.

    摘要: A multi-cylinder engine comprising an intake manifold equipped with a carburetor. A secondary throttle valve is provided for each cylinder. Each of the secondary throttle valves is arranged in the respective manifold branch and fixed onto a common throttle shaft. An auxiliary intake passage is branched off from the collecting portion of the intake manifold and connected to a distribution channel. Each of the intake ports is connected to the distribution channel via a corresponding channel branch which opens into the intake port at a position near the intake valve. The common throttle shaft of the secondary throttle valves is connected to a vacuum operated diaphragm apparatus so that the secondary throttle valves are opened in accordance with a reduction in the level of vacuum produced in the intake manifold.

    摘要: Disclosed is an internal combustion engine comprising a combustion chamber and an accumulation chamber which are interconnected to each other via an accumulation valve. The opening operation of the accumulation valve is controlled so that the accumulation valve remains opened during the compression stroke. Fuel is fed into the accumulation chamber to form therein a rich mixture. In the first half of the compression stroke, a jet of the rich mixture is spouted out into the combustion chamber from the accumulation chamber to stratify the inside of the combustion chamber so that the rich mixture is collected around the spark plug. In the latter half of the compression stroke, a lean mixture in the combustion chamber flows into the accumulation chamber to accumulate the mixture under high pressure, which is spouted out into the combustion chamber at the next cycle, in the accumulation chamber.

    摘要: Controlled exhaust gas recycling can be accomplished by a pneumatically actuated valve which restricts the flow of exhaust gas from an exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine to the intake manifold. Exhaust gas may be removed from the manifold and enters a pressure chamber through a reduction means, such as an aperture in a plate. The effective cross-sectional area of hydrodynamic flow of the reduction means is chosen to be greater than the effective cross-sectional area of hydrodynamic flow of the valve. The valve is actuated by a diaphragm control means which is coupled to the intake and exhaust manifold. The diaphragm control means controls the amount of partial pressure applied to the pneumatically actuated valve according to the exhaust pressure from the exhaust manifold. Thus, the ratio of exhaust gas recycled through the internal combustion engine relative to the amount of engine air intake, decreases as the air intake volume increases, such as when the engine is under high loads or operating at high rates (RPM).

    摘要: An exhaust pressure regulating system for use with an exhaust gas recirculating system of an internal combustion engine, and particularly for an automobile, utilizing a control valve of the butterfly or poppet type in the exhaust pipe for adjusting the back pressure in the exhaust, a vacuum-sensitive device for actuating the control valve, a pressure-signal passage for applying the pressure in the intake manifold to the vacuum-sensitive device and a pressure-comparing valve sensitive to the quantity of air being taken into the engine and the adjusted back pressure in the exhaust for modulating the pressure in the pressure-signal passage. The pressure-comparing valve includes a pair of interlocked diaphragms actuated in opposed relationship interacting with a biased valve member in the pressure-signal passage, one of the interlocked diaphragms being actuated by the venturi vacuum pressure created by the quantity of air being taken into the engine through the carburetor and the other of the diaphragms being actuated by the adjusted back pressure and tending to open the valve and bleed-off pressure in the pressure-signal passage. A booster valve is preferably used to amplify the venturi vacuum pressure and a pressure-changeover valve, sensitive to operating conditions of the engine, may be disposed in the pressure-signal passage.
