A method of producing a nanoparticle by milling layered materials is provided. Also disclosed is a method of making a lubricant, the method including milling layered materials to form nanoparticles and incorporating the nanoparticles into a base to form a lubricant.
Abstract:
A waterborne composition for forming protective coatings to provide, by a simple method comprising coating and drying onto a metal surface, a coating that is uniform with little unevenness and that has an excellent galling resistance and workability that are at least as good as the corresponding properties afforded by conversion treatment methodologies, contains water-soluble inorganic salt and smectite-type clay mineral. The lubrication performance of the coating can also be improved when said composition additionally contains a lubricating component.
Abstract:
A threaded joint for a steel pipe comprises a pin and a box with a contact surface having a threaded part and a unthreaded metal contact part, wherein a solid lubricating film containing one or more kinds of lubricating powders selected from graphite, mica, calcium carbonate and kaolin, a copper powder, and a binder is formed on at least one contact surface of the pin and the box.An object of the present invention is to provide a threaded joint for a steel pipe which allows for repeated fastening and loosening of a threaded joint without adversely influencing on a human body and environment, and is excellent in galling resistance, rust preventing property and gas tightness.
Abstract:
The disclosed invention provides a composition that possesses insulation values approaching that of uncompressed foam neoprene. The liquid composition is incompressible and may be formulated to be neutrally buoyant in water. The composition is suitable for a use in a number of applications where insulation is required, including divers' suits and underwater cabins, such as chambers, submersible hulls, and waterproof housings.
Abstract:
A coating and bonding composition is disclosed which includes a suspending agent, bonding agent, thinning agent, and a particulate fluoride anti-seize agent designed to bond a particulate fluoride film to the thread surface to prevent seizing and galling. A anti-seize lubricating composition is also disclosed where an environmentally friendly lubricating composition is applied as a top coat to the bonding composition and to methods for making and using the compositions.
Abstract:
A subject of the invention is a lubricating grease, characterized in that it contains: from 70 to 95% by weight of a mixture comprising at least a first ester of fatty acid and of sorbitan and at least a second ester of fatty acid and of polyoxyalkylated sorbitan, these esters being present in quantities by weight, relative to the weight of the said mixture, of 10 to 90% and 90 to 10%, respectively; and from 5 to 30% by weight of at least one thickening agent. A subject of the invention is also a preparation process for a grease according to the invention, as well as use as a lubricant of such a grease. A subject of the invention is also a vehicle wheel containing a grease according to the invention.
Abstract:
According to the invention there is provided a liquid friction control composition characterized as either having a high and positive friction characteristic or a low and neutral friction characteristic, comprising a retentivity agent. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components such as a solid lubricant, a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems.
Abstract:
A swellable layer silicate is described based on smectite or sepiolite/palygorskite for use in media containing di- or polyvalent cations that reduce swellability, characterized by a swelling volume of about 5 to 50 mL, measured by addition of 2 g layer silicate (air-dried) to 100 mL water, and by a fineness of maximum 5 wt. % >40 nullm and maximum 20% >20 nullm, as dry sieve residue.
Abstract:
This invention provides phyllosilicates and polyfunctional dispersants which can be manipulated to selectively control the viscosity of phyllosilicate slurries. The polyfunctional dispersants used in the present invention, which include at least three functional groups, increase the dispersion and exfoliation of phyllosilicates in polymers and, when used in conjunction with phyllosilicate slurries, significantly reduce the viscosity of slurries having high concentrations of phyllosilicates. The functional groups of the polyfunctional dispersants are capable of associating with multivalent metal cations and low molecular weight organic polymers, which can be manipulated to substantially increase or decrease the viscosity of the slurry in a concentration dependent manner. The polyfunctional dispersants of the present invention can also impart desirable properties on the phyllosilicate dispersions including corrosion inhibition and enhanced exfoliation of the phyllosilicate platelets.
