Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a flame retardant hydraulic oil excellent in the flame retardancy, unaccompanied by the dangers of pinhole fire at sites of use and giving rise to no environmental contamination. This flame retardant hydraulic oil contain a hydraulic base oil comprising as the essential component an polyol partial ester which is a product formed by reacting (A) a polyol having a total of 6 to 22 carbon atoms and a total of 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups with (B) an acyclic monocarboxylic acid having a total of 6 to 22 carbon atoms. Said polyol partial ester has a hydroxyl value of 35 mg KOH/g or more, a flash point of 290° C. or higher and an average molecular weight of 600 to 1,500.
Abstract:
A first refrigerating machine oil of the present invention has a sodium and/or potassium concentration of not higher than 0.1 ppm. Since it has low hydrolyzability and excellent insulating properties, the first refrigerating machine oil is useful as a refrigerating machine oil composition for refrigerators having a hermetic compressor. A second refrigerating machine oil of the present invention is composed mainly of an ester of pentaerythritol and a carboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid is a mixed carboxylic acid composed of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid and a straight-chain or branched fatty acid having from 6 to 8 carbon atoms. The proportion of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid in the mixed carboxylic acid is in the range of from more than 50 mol % to not more than 90 mol %. The second refrigerating machine oil has high viscosity and high electrical insulating properties, which are required for refrigerating machine oils as used for large-sized air conditioning equipment and room air conditioners, and is non-crystallizable at low temperature and hence superior in handleability.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A thickened composition is disclosed which comprises(A) at least one triglyceride estolide of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is an aliphatic group or an aliphatic group containing an ester moiety R.sup.2 COO-- with the proviso that at least one R.sup.1 is an aliphatic group containing the ester moiety, and contains from about 5 to about 23 carbon atoms, and R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbyl group containing from 1 to 100 carbon atoms and(B) at least one oil comprising(1) a synthetic ester base oil(2) a mineral oil, or(3) a polyalphaolefin.
Abstract:
A method of producing an antioxidant containing compound, and in particular, an antioxidant glyceride derivative, comprises reacting a first compound with a second medium. By this reaction, a product is formed whereby an active component of the first compound, e.g., the antioxidant, is covalently incorporated into the second medium. The second medium comprises glyceride derivatives, silicones, fluorocarbons and alkoxylates containing reactive groups such as hydroxy, amino, carboxyl, ester, or amides.
Abstract:
A metal-working lubricant contains as essential ingredients (1) polyol ester, (2) triaryl phosphate, (3) a sorbitan type or glycerol ester type nonionic surfactant. The metal working lubricant may be used neat or as a stable lubricant emulsion.
Abstract:
An extreme pressure agent and a friction coefficient modifier which comprises a compound having, in a molecule, a group represented by general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 each represents hydrogen atom or methyl group, and at least one of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represents hydrogen atom; a fluid resistant to seizure under load and a wear resistant fluid which each comprises the above additive or the above modifier; and a flame resistant fluid which comprises a thermally polymerizable substance, preferably the above compound. The extreme pressure agent and the friction coefficient modifier have excellent properties and are advantageously used for lubricating oil, metal working oil, and hydraulic oil. The flame resistant fluid suppresses vaporization of flammable substances by thermal polymerization to prevent fire when the fluid is exposed to a high temperature and is advantageously used as lubricating oil, metal working oil, hydraulic oil, heat treatment oil, and grease.
Abstract:
