    摘要: A device for obtaining a culture sample from a particular location in a body passage while avoiding contamination of the sample by materials located elsewhere in the body passage includes a stiff flexible tube. A sleeve of pliant waterproof material surrounds the tube and the distal end of the sleeve is tucked into the distal end of the tube. A bag of pliant waterproof material is bonded to the outside surface of the sleeve to form a waterproof seal extending all around the sleeve, the bag enclosing the distal end of the tube and the distal end of the sleeve. The bag has a limited burst strength and is broken after the distal end has been emplaced at a particular pre-sampling level to expose the sterile sleeve that was tucked into the tube. As the tube is inserted a short distance further, the portion of the sleeve that was tucked into the tube everts out of the distal end of the tube to form a sterile curtain surrounding the distal end of the tube and protecting it from contamination. The sample can then be taken by sucking it up the tube or, more typically, by inserting a sampling tube of smaller diameter through the tube, injecting a wash, and withdrawing the wash through the sampling tube.

    摘要: A molding apparatus for applying a protective coating to an irregularly sized article includes a mold shell having upper and lower portions with mold cavities of a preselected configuration in each portion to receive the article, such as a threaded fitting or coupling, for coating. The shell upper and lower portions are secured together to position the cavities in overlying relation and surrounding the article. Openings extend through the shell portions into the overlying cavities to expose the end portions of the article. Seal members are advanced into the openings and are secured as by threaded engagement to the end portions of the article. The seal members seal the openings and position the article within the cavities to form an annulus surrounding the article as defined by the surface of the cavities. A fluid inlet extends through the shell and into the annulus. A moisture resistant, resilient, polymeric liquid, such as polyvinylchloride, is introduced through the inlet and fills the annulus surrounding the article. After curing the liquid is bonded to the outer surface of the article to form an insulating, moisture resistant, resilient polymeric coating. The coating terminates on the threaded end portion of the article in annular resilient flange portions as defined by the configuration of the seal members. The annular flange portions extend radially of the threaded end portions regardless of the length thereof so that connecting members threadedly engaged to the end portions of the article contact the annular flanges to effect an insulating and moisture resistant seal therebetween.

    摘要: A contoured article having three dimensional surface effects is disclosed herein, such as a headliner or floor covering for a vehicle. The contour of the article and at least one three dimensional decorative surface are incorporated into the article during molding. The three dimensional surface preferably is an exact replica of the surface of a textile product. Further, the final article may be surface decorated, if desired. A process for producing a contoured article having a three dimensional decorative surface is also disclosed and claimed herein. The process involves the provision of a master mold, the cavities of which define both the contour and the three dimensional surface design. A foamable composition is cast into one section of the master mold after which the mold sections are brought into register while the composition is fused or cured in situ, conforming to the contour and three dimensional surface cavities of the mold. The foam article produced thus possesses the contour of the article with at least one surface displaying a three dimensional decorative effect. After removal from the mold, the article may be used as is, or may be further decorated as exemplified by the application of an adhesive to the three dimensional surface followed by flocking with textile fibers.

    摘要: Apparatus for applying labels onto hollow bodies, including a blow mold having a cavity for containing a hollow body, and a member movable toward and away from the mold cavity, the member having an end conforming to the curvature of the cavity and forming a section thereof for carrying a label to be applied to the hollow body during movement of the member toward the cavity. Ventilation openings are provided in the mold for venting any air which may be present between the hollow body and the label during application. Suction openings are provided in the member for securely maintaining the label in place on the member, and pressure openings are also provided in the central portion member to cause the label to bow outwardly, thereby presenting a convex surface to the hollow body.

    摘要: A machine inserts sticks into rapidly freezing confections by presenting a tape which holds the sticks in a horizontal plane to a gripping mechanism. After this gripping mechanism has gripped certain sticks, it - the gripping mechanism - is moved away from the tape and turned; and it is then plunged downwardly towards the molds which are full of confection mixture, which is freezing rapidly, so that the sticks penetrate into and are held by the confection mixture. The sticks are released and the gripping mechanism is returned to the tape to begin the cycle again. Fresh sticks are presented to the gripping mechanism because movement of the tape took place while the gripping mechanism was inserting the sticks in the freezing mixture.
