Abstract: A web (8) of cleaning products (10) and a method of manufacturing the same is disclosed. The web includes first (20) and second carrier (30) sheets and a plurality of pouches (50) containing a cleaning composition. Each of the pouches is disposed in a respective depression (26) formed in an upper surface (28) of the first carrier sheet. A first internal atmosphere (80) is enclosed within each of the pouches. The first carrier sheet is sealed to the second carrier sheet such that a second internal atmosphere (82) exists between the second carrier sheet and the plurality of pouches. The second internal atmosphere has a greater absolute pressure (P) than the first internal atmosphere so that the plurality of pouches and at least a portion of the cleaning composition in the plurality of pouches are compressed into the plurality of depressions in the first carrier sheet by the second internal atmosphere.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are sealing solutions for sealing water-soluble films, in particular aqueous mixtures including one or more polymeric solvents such as polyols. Aqueous sealing solutions including a relatively dilute solvent for one or more polymeric components of the water-soluble film (e.g., water-soluble polymeric components thereof, such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH)) can exhibit one or more benefits, including a reduction in dissolution of the film by the sealing solution and an increase in seal strength. Also disclosed are sealed articles formed with the sealing solutions, for example water-soluble packets containing various liquid or solid compositions.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a water soluble film suitable for thermoforming deep-drawn profiles, the film including a mixture of a water soluble polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) resin and a plasticizer, and the film being characterized by a storage modulus at 90° C. less than 1.5×108. The disclosure further provides a thermoformed article comprising the water soluble film according to the disclosure.

Abstract: Methods of treating fibers comprising a polymer including at least one of a vinyl acetate moiety or a vinyl alcohol moiety, and resulting fibers or the products comprising the resulting fibers are disclosed. In an example embodiment, a fiber having a surface region and an interior region, includes a polymer comprising at least one of a vinyl acetate moiety or a vinyl alcohol moiety chemically modified with a modification agent. The fiber has a transverse cross-section including the interior region comprising the polymer having a first degree of modification and the surface region comprising the polymer having a second degree of modification greater than the first degree of modification.

Abstract: A water-soluble film for packaging oxidizing agents including a polyvinyl alcohol resin and a plasticizer, the polyvinyl alcohol resin comprising about 70% to about 100% of a polyvinyl alcohol copolymer including a maleate unit, wherein (a) when the polyvinyl alcohol copolymer comprises less than 100% of the polyvinyl alcohol resin, the balance of the resin comprises a polyvinyl alcohol homopolymer; (b) when the polyvinyl alcohol copolymer comprises 100% of the polyvinyl alcohol resin and the film comprises a starch, the plasticizer comprises sorbitol and glycerol; and (c) when the polyvinyl alcohol resin comprises a blend of polyvinyl alcohol polymers and the polyvinyl alcohol copolymer is provided in an amount in a range of about 70% to about 90%, by weight, and the film comprises starch, then the film does not include sorbitol and/or glycerol; and the film is characterized by an elongation at break of at least about 25%.

Abstract: A film-enclosed bath article and a method of manufacturing the same is disclosed. The method includes providing a formed bath article enclosing the formed bath article in a water-soluble film. The formed bath article is capable of producing a gas upon contacting a liquid. The water-soluble film has a thickness between approximately 10 μm and approximately 28 μm. The method further includes heating the water-soluble film to a temperature of at least approximately 300° F. to cause the water-soluble film to shrink around the formed bath article.
