A process is described for producing polyurethane moldings by the reaction of compounds of molecular weight 400 to 10,000 which contain at least 2 hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with isocyanates, and optionally chain extenders of molecular weight 32 to 399, with polyisocyanates, optionally in the presence of foaming agents, auxiliary materials and additives, in which defined carbamates are used as activators. The polyurethanes obtained by this process are particularly low in emissions, i.e. are stable in relation to diffusion and exhibit low fogging, and are thus particularly suitable for the production of composite bodies comprising a polyurethane core and at least one further plastic material as an outer layer. Also described is the use of these moldings and composite bodies which are stable in relation to diffusion and which cause low fogging, e.g. as dashboards or door trims in the construction of vehicles, furniture, machines or apparatus.

The invention relates to a process for insulating pipes by applying a rigid polyurethane foam as an insulating layer and optionally an external top coating by the rotational casting process. A process for the CFC-free production of cellular polyurethane molded parts/articles with solid surfaces by reacting a reaction mixture of per se known starting materials in sealed molds, to yield polyurethane foams. Carbamates obtainable from aliphatic aminoalcohols and carbon dioxide are used as blowing agents, optionally in conjunction with other blowing agents. The process is suitable for producing foam coverings on steering wheels, spoilers and protective upholstery in car interiors, and for producing soles of shoes or shoe components.

Polyurethanes which have been prepared or combined with another material are made by combining or applying a polyurethane-forming reaction mixture or polyurethane to another material such as a PVC foil or textile. The polyurethane-forming mixture or polyurethane is made up of an organic polyisocyanate, a high molecular weight isocyanate reactive material, a catalyst and a stabilizer against thermolysis and contact discoloration. The required stabilizer is an epoxide having an epoxide equivalent weight between 57 and 10,000. Other additives commonly used in polyurethane chemistry such as blowing agents, chain extenders and surfactants may also be employed. The polyurethane composites thus produced are characterized by improved thermal stability and reduced discoloration.

This invention relates to polyurethane foams capable of being welded by high frequency welding and a process for producing the same, characterized by the addition of certain ammonium salts of acids containing phosphorus to the starting components for the polyurethane foam in order that the polyurethane starting materials and the polyurethanes contain from 0.1 to 10%, by weight, of ammonium salts of phosphorus-containing acids. Phosphorus-containing ammonium salts which are available in the liquid form and completely soluble in polyols are particularly suitable with salts of phosphoric acid mono- and dibutyl esters, dialkyl phosphinic acids, alkyl phosphonic acids and alkyl phosphonic acid monomethyl esters being preferred. The addition of these acids significantly increases the dielectric loss factor of thermoplastic polyurethane foams and, therefore, also considerably increases their capacity for being welded by high frequency welding.
