Abstract: A filter for removing ferrous particles from a fluid. The filter has an outer filter housing and a non-ferrous liner inside the housing. A plurality of magnets are longitudinally extended at intervals outside the liner. An insert inside the liner imparting a directional flow to the fluid inside the filter whereby ferrous particles in the fluid are trapped by the magnets and held against the non-ferrous line.

Abstract: A separator device for removing particles from suspension in a liquid comprises: a housing (12), having first (19) and second (40) chambers with apertures (98) for ingress and egress of liquid into the first chamber (19); means (100) for setting up a swirl of liquid within the first chamber (19); apertures enabling flow of liquid between the first chamber (19) and the second chamber (40); means for setting up a swirl of liquid within the second chamber (40), the swirl in the second chamber (40) being in substantially the opposite direction to the swirl in the first chamber, and there being no substantial flow in the second chamber (40) which is in the same direction as the swirl in the first chamber (19).

Abstract: Methods of concentrating beads in a droplet and/or loading beads on a fluidic device are provided, including among other things, a method of concentrating beads in a droplet, the method comprising: (a) providing a droplet actuator comprising: (i) an interior droplet operations volume; and (ii) a reservoir exterior to the interior volume; (iii) a droplet established in a liquid path extending from the reservoir into the interior volume; (b) providing magnetically responsive beads in the portion of the droplet which is in the reservoir; (c) magnetically attracting the magnetically responsive beads through the liquid path into the portion of the droplet which is in the interior volume; and (d) forming a droplet comprising one or more of the magnetically responsive beads in the interior volume.

Abstract: A magnetic filtration device (105) configured to entrap magnetically susceptible material and non-magnetically susceptible material. An array of magnetic columns (703, 704) of alternating north and south polarity are positioned within a plurality of chambers (308, 309) that direct the fluid flow in an extended flowpath through a magnetic field circuit created by the columns of magnets (703, 704). A separator flange (305) acts to entrap nonferrous particles for subsequent removal and isolation from a fluid network in which the device (105) maybe installed.

Abstract: An electrostatic particle collector may generally include a housing having sidewalls extending lengthwise between a first end and a second end. The housing may define a plate slot that extends heightwise within the housing between a top end and a bottom end. The housing may further include a plate access window that provides access to the bottom end of the plate slot. The collector may also include a collector plate configured to be installed within the plate slot that extends heightwise between a top edge and a bottom edge. Additionally, when the collector plate is installed within the plate slot, the bottom edge of the collector plate may be accessible from an exterior of the housing via the plate access window so as to allow the bottom edge of the collector plate to be moved relative to the housing to facilitate removal of the collector plate from the housing.

Abstract: A particle separator is provided that separates small particulate from large particulate from an intermixed material feed. The separator finds particular utility in the field of separation of thermoplastic regrind particulate from intermixed debris which constitutes a smaller particulate relative to the thermoplastic regrind. Embodiments of the separator use a rotary shaft for mounting an spiral blade fed by a material feeder bin that meters material into the separator. The spiral blade is configured so that the material moves along a peripheral mesh screen to separate any smaller particulate that passes through the mesh screen leaving the large particulate to traverse though the separator, while small particulate is sieved therefrom the surrounding mesh and into a separate collection stream. The spiral blade is mounted to a central magnetic axis to achieve removal of unwanted foreign spurious metal shavings or particulate that may be introduced to molding materials due to mechanical wear of the processing machinery.
