    摘要: A cutting tool for removing material from a workpiece wherein the cutting tool is held in a pocket of a tool holder. The cutting tool includes a cutting tool substrate with a rake surface and flank surfaces, as well as a notch at the intersection of a pair of adjacent ones of the flank surfaces. The substrate includes opposite flank surfaces that are opposite from the notch and are disposed at a substrate disposition angle with respect to the rake surface of the cutting tool substrate. The cutting tool further includes a cutting blank that is within the notch. The cutting blank has a rake surface and a pair of exposed flank surfaces wherein a cutting edge is at the intersection of the rake surface and the exposed flank surfaces. The exposed flank surfaces of the cutting blank are disposed at a cutting clearance angle with respect to the rake surface of the cutting blank. The cutting clearance angle is not equal to the substrate disposition angle.

    摘要: A hard carbon film is formed directly or through an intermediate layer for enhancing adhesion over an inner surface of a guide bush in such a manner that the thickness of the inner surface at the portion near an open end is greater than that at the inner portion thereof, wherein the inner surface is in sliding contact with a workpiece and the guide bush is mounted on an automatic lathe for holding the workpiece rotatably and slidably in the axial direction near a cutting tool. Accordingly, the guide bush is disposed in a vacuum vessel to form a hard carbon film of a hydrogenated amorphous carbon over the inner surface of the guide bush by a plasma CVD method. At this time, a rodlike auxiliary electrode provided with a stepped portion having an extremity which is smaller than another portion or a rodlike auxiliary electrode provided with a tapered portion having an extremity is inserted into the center bore forming the inner surface of the guide bush in such a manner that the extremity of the tapered portion is positioned near the open end of the inner surface of the guide bush, and the auxiliary electrode is grounded or a positive DC current is applied to the auxiliary electrode.

    摘要: A tool having includes a base body of cemented carbide, cermet, ceramics, steel or high-speed steel and a single-layer or multi-layer wear protection coating deposited thereon by CVD process and having a thickness within the range of from 2 μm to 25 μm. The wear protection coating has at least a Ti1-xAlxCyNz layer with 0.40≤x≤0.95, 0≤y≤0.10 and 0.85≤z≤1.15 having a thickness in the range of from 1 μm to 16 μm and having >85 vol-% face-centered cubic (fcc) crystal structure. The Ti1-xAlxCyNz layer includes precipitations of Ti1-oAloCpNq at the grain boundaries of the Ti1-xAlxCyNz crystallites have a higher Al content than inside the crystallites, wherein 0.95≤o≤1.00, 0≤p≤0.10, 0.85≤q≤1.15 and (0−x)≥0.05.
