Abstract:
A multi-layer reinforced and stabilized cable construction comprising a core portion (1, 11) and a non-metallic sheathing portion having barrier and protective layers and two or more outer reinforcement layers. In order for the mechanical and barrier properties of the cable to be controlled, the barrier and protective layers and/or the reinforcement layers (12, 13) are oriented in a controlled manner at different angles by fibrous reinforcements or lamellar barriers.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a co-extruded multilayer plastic pipe comprising an inner pipe and an outer pipe and between them a middle layer of a softer material than the inner pipe. The invention also relates to a method of producing a co-extruded multilayer pipe in a multilayer extruder, and an apparatus for producing the co-extruded multilayer pipe.
Abstract:
A continuous method of extruding an oriented plastic article of improved strength. A chemically reactive polymer, monomer or other compound is included in the matrix material(s) and a (multilayer) parison is extruded or melt formed having built-in thermoplastic orientation caused by shear or caused by elongational flow. A reaction can be activated in the molten state thereof by additional heat resulting in a cross-linked structure or at least the mobility of the molecules being reduced, resulting in a longer relaxation time which makes the freezing of permanent orientation possible. The soft matrix can be stretched while still hot in the hoop and/or axial direction. Then, the product thus obtain is calibrated and cooled in an oriented state.
Abstract:
A plastic melt is treated for a short-time with a liquid treatment agent under pressure, it is divided into defined subquantities, individual subquantities are brought into contact with a treatment agent and combined for a residence time of less than one second with portions of at least one other subquantity, and portions of the mixture thus formed are separated and combined with another subquantity; the steps of dividing and combining the mixture are repeated several times at intervals of less than one second until an intimate mixture of the plastic melt and the treatment agent has formed, allowing the preparation of especially homogeneously structured thermoplastic materials, e.g., poly(methacrylalkylimide) plastics, which are compatible with poly(methyl methacrylate).
Abstract:
A rotor and stator mixing system has mixing-chamber recesses in the outer periphery of the rotor and inner periphery of the stator which are generally similar, arrayed in peripheral and axial rows and are mutually axially offset. The guide radius R of the semicircular ends of each elongated recess is also the trough radius thereof and the trough depth is less than this guide radius. The length L of the mixing chambers is three to four times the guide radius, the web width between the recesses of each circumferential row is less than half the guide radius and the shear gap width W is so selected that the shear velocity which is realized is sufficient for effective mixing by a shear action.
Abstract:
Process for the preparation of an edible fat-containing product wherein a fat-containing fraction (a) of the composition which is to constitute the product is cooled to cause crystallization of part of the fat and a fraction (b) of the composition is mixed with fraction (a) containing partially crystallized fat in a mixer comprising two closely spaced mutually displaceable surfaces, each having a pattern of cavities which overlap during movement of one surface with respect to the other, between which surfaces the fractions to be mixed pass, and according to a preferred embodiment 10 to 99.99% of fraction (a) is mixed with 90 to 0.01% of fraction (b), calculated as volume % on the total composition.
Abstract:
Material to be colored is fed from an extruder to a positive displacement means such as a gear pump. The output from which is split into at least two streams one of which is fed to a mixer which is preferably a cavity transfer mixer. Colorant is injected into one of the streams either before or at the mixer and the two streams are recombined downstream of the mixer preferably in a diehead. The arrangement provides for reliable coloration whilst premitting flexibility in production.
Abstract:
Novel system for providing a homogeneous mixture of materials comprising an internal mixer, an extruder, a cavity transfer mixer, means for discharging a mix from the internal mixer directly into the extruder, said extruder and cavity transfer mixer being juxtaposed in fluid-tight arrangement whereby material traversing the length of the extruder passes directly into the cavity transfer mixer, means for injecting material into the cavity transfer mixer for admixture with material traversing therethrough from the extruder, output means for removing the resulting homogeneous mix from the cavity transfer mixer, and motor means for operating said internal mixer, extruder and cavity transfer mixer, said motor means comprising means for separately driving and varying the speed of said cavity transfer mixer, whereby said cavity transfer mixer is adapted for operation at varying speeds higher than said extruder.
Abstract:
A single screw kneading extruder adapted for use with a viscous fluid such as molten plastics and including a first-stage kneading portion (2) and a second-stage kneading portion (4) aligned therewith. The first kneading portion (2) disperses a filler in polymer by a powerful shearing force and has kneading blades (12) on its rotor (10). The filler incorporated into the polymer by the first portion (2) is uniformly blended with and dispersed in the polymer by the second kneading portion (4) having cavities (23), (22) in its rotor (21) and stator (20), respectively.
