Abstract:
A stable, fluid alkaline earth metal tallate dispersion is prepared by (i) forming a pre-emulsion of fatty acids derived from tall oil, water, and a surfactant; (ii) forming an alkaline earth metal salt dispersion from an alkaline earth metal oxide and/or hydroxide, a lower carboxylic acid, and water; and (iii) incorporating the pre-emulsion into the alkaline earth metal salt dispersion under high shear and low pressure.
Abstract:
The coefficient of friction of aluminum can surfaces after alkaline cleaning and drying can be substantially reduced by adding to the alkaline cleaner a mobility enhancing additive, preferably a surface active quaternary ammonium salt with hydroxyethyl substituents on the quaternary nitrogen atoms. A can surface suitable for automatic conveying and high quality lacquer or printing ink adhesion can thereby be obtained, if desired without including any substantial fluoride content in any treatment stage.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The invention is a processing aid for thermoplastic polyesters which is a salt of a polycarboxylic acid or the salt of a polycarboxylic partial ester. The polycarboxylic acids are partial esters or sales of modified acids such as succinic acid, adipic acid, phthalic acid, citric acid, dicarboxylphenyl group and the like. The addition of the processing aid improves the slip and transparency.
Abstract:
The process of reducing the coefficient of static friction on the outside surface of a metal can by applying thereto a lubricant and surface conditioner for formed metal surfaces, particularly beverage containers, which reduces the coefficient of static friction of said metal surfaces and enables drying said metal surfaces at a lower temperature. The conditioner is a water-soluble organic material selected from a phosphate ester, alcohol, fatty acid including mono-, di-, tri-, and poly-acids; fatty acid derivatives such as salts, hydroxy acids, amides, esters, ethers and derivatives thereof; and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
A cutting oil suitable for the working of nonferrous metals, in particular for milling and engraving copper cylinders employed in gravure printing, is based on fatty acid esters of monohydric or polyhydric alcohols in an organic solvent which is selected from glycols, oligoglycols, polyglycols or their monoethers, diethers, monoesters or diesters, and also contains a surfactant, preferably an anionic surfactant. This oil enables outstanding and trouble-free working of metals and is distinguished by being completely removable, without regreasing, in an alkaline degreasing bath.
Abstract:
An improved process is disclosed for the preparation of polyalkenyl-substituted succinic anhydride comprising a final thermal treatment after removal of excess maleic anhydride from the reaction mixture, resulting in lowered chlorine content of the desired product.
Abstract:
A food grade lubricant composition particularly useful for hydraulic oils, gear oils, and compressor oils for equipment used in the food processing and packaging industry having a composition: (a) propylene glycol; (b) water (preferably deionized), (c) high ethyl PAG polymer; (d) capric acid; (e) potassium hydroxide; and, (f) amine phosphate and a method of formulating the composition. In addition a method of lubricating surfaces of the machinery used for processing or packaging food, food packaging materials, or other materials related to the food processing industry including the step of applying the formulation composition to the surfaces of the food processing or packaging machinery.
Abstract:
A method for producing a high viscosity, low volatiles blown stripped oil blend is provided. The method may include the steps of: (i) obtaining an oil blend of corn stillage oil and soybean oil having a weight ratio of corn stillage oil to soybean oil of from about 1:2 to 3:1; (ii) heating the oil blend to at least 90° C.; (iii) passing air through the heated oil blend to produce a blown oil having a viscosity of at least 50 cSt at 40° C.; and (iv) stripping the blown oil from step (iii) to reduce an acid value of the blown oil to less than 5.0 mg KOH/gram.
