A mixture of first and second redispersible polymer powders where the first redispersible polymer powder has a copolymer having a glass transition temperature of 60 degrees Celsius or higher and an acid level in a range of 0.1 to 8 weight-percent percent as determined by potentiometric titration according to ASTM D664 and the second redispersible polymer powder is selected from vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer redispersible polymer powders and polymer powders of a blend of vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer and vinyl ester of versatic acid copolymer is useful as a component in a dry-mix formulation that further contains Portland cement, alumina rich cement and calcium sulfate.

Methods for preparing waterborne heat seal coating compositions are disclosed, including (A) melt blending an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, a tackifier, and a wax in a first mixing apparatus to form a melt blend, (B) contacting the melt blend with an initial aqueous stream comprising a neutralizing agent, water, and a surfactant in an emulsification zone of the second mixing apparatus to form a dispersion, and (C) diluting the dispersion with water in a dilution zone of the second mixing apparatus to form the waterborne heat seal coating composition. Methods for preparing waterborne heat seal coating compositions are also disclosed, including (A) melt blending an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, a tackifier, and a wax in a mixing and conveying zone of a mixing apparatus to form a melt blend, (B) contacting the melt blend with an initial aqueous stream comprising a neutralizing agent, water, and a surfactant in an emulsification zone of the mixing apparatus to form a dispersion, and (C) diluting the dispersion with water in a dilution zone of the mixing apparatus to form the waterborne heat seal coating composition, wherein the length-to-diameter ratio of the extruder mixing apparatus is greater than or equal to 12 to 1. The present invention provides polymer composites, such as films, having dispersed therein quantum dots, wherein the polymer comprises (b) polymerized units of a first compound comprising from one to 6 thiol groups, the compound having a molecular weight from 300 to 20,000 and having at least one continuous acyclic hydrocarbyl chain of at least three carbon atoms, or, preferably, at least 5 carbon atoms; and (c) polymerized units of a second compound having a molecular weight from 100 to 750 and comprising at least two polymerizable vinyl groups as part of a (meth)acrylate ester group or attached directly to an aromatic ring and, wherein the molecular weight of the first compound minus the molecular weight of the second compound is at least 100. The polymer composites provide more stably dispersed and durable quantum dot compositions for use in, for example, display devices.

The present invention provides methods for making polymerizable monomer compositions comprising purifying a (b) monomer mixture of (i) one or more monomers having at least two polymerizable vinyl groups and (ii) one or more monomers having a single polymerizable vinyl group as part of a (meth)acrylate ester group by any one or more of treating the monomer mixture in an activated porous alumina or silica column, sieve drying the monomer mixture in a vacuum followed by drying over dried molecular sieves having average pore sizes of from 2 to 20 Angstroms, freeze-pump-thaw (FPT) treating by freezing the monomer mixture in a vessel or container to a temperature below −75° C., degassing the monomer mixture by application of vacuum in the range of 102 to 10−2 Pa, sealing the vessel or container under vacuum, and thawing the composition to room temperature; and, combining in an inert gas atmosphere the resulting monomer mixture (b) with a composition (a) of quantum dots in dry form or organic solvent solution.
