Abstract:
A process for applying a faux finish includes the steps of applying a textured paint to a surface as a base coat, the textured paint having approximately 250 grams to approximately 500 grams of pumice per liquid gallon of paint, allowing the applied textured paint to dry on the surface, randomly applying to the dried textured paint a wet slurry composition, partially drying the applied wet composition, and dry brushing the partially dried composition about the dried textured paint to create a faux effect on the surface. The wet slurry composition comprises concentrations of approximately 40% to approximately 70% by volume of water, approximately 0.2% to approximately 0.5% by volume of methylcellulose, approximately 15% to approximately 25% by volume of acrylic resin, and approximately 15% to approximately 25% by volume of mica particles having a mesh size of between approximately 250 mesh and approximately 400 mesh.
Abstract:
A styrenic composition including a polar modified styrenic co-polymer resulting from the polymerization of a combined mixture of at least one styrenic monomer and at least one comonomer and a biodegradable component is disclosed. The at least one comonomer includes a polar functional group and the polar modified styrenic co-polymer and the biodegradable component are combined to obtain a styrenic composition having a biodegradable component. Also disclosed is a method of enhancing bio-polymer miscibility in a styrenic based polymer. The polarity of a blend is manipulated by combining a styrenic monomer and a polar co-monomer to form a combined mixture and subjecting the combined mixture to polymerization to obtain a styrenic polymer blend to which a bio-polymer is added.
Abstract:
Molded articles formed from compositions comprising thermoplastic polymers and oils are disclosed, where the oil is dispersed throughout the thermoplastic polymer.
Abstract:
The invention pertains to a particle comprising a composition containing a matrix and a peroxide or azo radical initiator, wherein the particle is a fiber or fibrid selected from aramid, polyester, polyimide, cellulose, and glass. The invention further relates to particle-elastomers comprising said composition, and skim products, tires, tire treads, and belts comprising these particle-elastomers.
Abstract:
A process for preparing amides by reacting a primary amine and a primary alcohol in the presence of a Ruthenium complex to generate the amide and molecular hydrogen. Primary amines are directly acylated by equimolar amounts of alcohols to produce amides and molecular hydrogen (the only byproduct) in high yields and high turnover numbers. Also disclosed are processes for hydrogenation of amides to alcohols and amines; hydrogenation of organic carbonates to alcohols; hydrogenation of carbamates or urea derivatives to alcohols and amines; amidation of esters; acylation of alcohols using esters; coupling of alcohols with water and a base to form carboxylic acids; dehydrogenation of beta-amino alcohols to form pyrazines and cyclic dipeptides; and dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols to ketones. These reactions are catalyzed by a Ruthenium complex which is based on a dearomatized PNN-type ligand of formula A1 or precursors thereof of formulae A2 or A3.
