    Abstract: A chromatic dispersion compensator of present invention includes a high-refractive-index VIPA plate, a three-dimensional mirror, and a control unit. The high-refractive-index VIPA plate is made of a material such as silicon having a refractive index higher than that of optical glass and is able to output incident lights toward different directions according to wavelength. The three-dimensional mirror reflects the light of each wavelength emitted from the high-refractive-index VIPA plate, at a predetermined position and returns the light to the VIPA plate. The control unit controls a temperature of the high-refractive-index VIPA plate at a constant level while controlling the position of the three-dimensional mirror corresponding to a chromatic dispersion compensation amount. Thereby, larger chromatic dispersion can be compensated while a decrease in transmission bandwidth is suppressed.

    Abstract: An automatic transmission system for a vehicle includes a shift-by-wire system which converts a selected command operation range of a range selector into an electric signal and which changes an actual operation range of an automatic transmission into the selected command operation range by driving an actuator according to the electric signal. A lock mechanism restricts the operation of the range selector when the shift-by-wire system is electrically turned off regardless of the present operation range of the range selector.

    Abstract: A clutch assembly structure for a multiple disk clutch is provided which includes a first clutch assembly and a second clutch assembly which are coaxially arranged in parallel with each other, such that the first clutch assembly is located radially outwardly of the second clutch assembly. The second clutch assembly includes a second drum, a second piston slidably received in the second drum, and a second oil chamber formed between the second drum and the second piston. A canceling oil chamber for canceling the centrifugal oil pressure in the second oil chamber is formed within the second piston. In the canceling oil chamber is provided a canceling piston for canceling the centrifugal oil pressure in the second oil chamber. A second return spring consisting of a wave spring is provided between the second piston and the canceling piston.     Abstract: Provided herein is a process for producing methanol which was developed to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide which is responsible for global warming. The process involves the steps of generating steam by the use of nuclear heat of a high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor, decomposing the steam into hydrogen by means of a steam electrolyzer, and synthesizing methanol from this hydrogen and carbon dioxide obtained from a carbon dioxide source. The process also involves the steps of converting carbon dioxide and hydrogen into carbon monoxide and steam by means of a reverse shift reactor, forming hydrogen and carbon monoxide of almost the same composition as the conventional one, and reacting said hydrogen and carbon monoxide into methanol by means of a methanol synthesis column. The process permits the use of an existing methanol production facility. The process may be modified such that the gasified gas composed of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen is mixed with hydrogen gas generated by the steam electrolyzer, and the resulting mixed gas is converted into methanol. Also, a power generating plant is provided in which oxygen enriched air, generated by the steam electrolyzer using nuclear heat of the high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor, is used as combustion air.

    Abstract: A sealing plate for a prismatic secondary battery includes a pair of mouths for attaching a negative and positive electrode terminals, one mouth being formed near one end in a longitudinal direction of the sealing plate, and the other mouth being formed near the other end, coining areas used for positioning of an insulating member and formed around the pair of mouths on a front face of the sealing plate, a gas release valve and an electrolyte pour hole formed between the pair of mouths, and grooves formed between the respective coining areas and the long side edge of the sealing plate. The groove has a smaller depth near the gas release valve than the depth near the coining area. Even when the sealing plate is produced through forging, the front face has good flatness and the coining areas are unlikely to have a sink mark or a shear drop.
