Abstract: The present disclosure provides compositions, articles, and methods related to altering electromagnetic radiation. An actinic radiation curable precursor composition of a three-dimensional article includes a) a resin comprising an actinic radiation curable component, wherein the resin has a viscosity no greater than 500 cP; b) hollow glass microspheres having a density no greater than 2 g/mL and an average diameter no greater than 200 micrometers; and c) a photoinitiator. At least part of the surface of the hollow glass microspheres comprises a surface coating or modification. An article includes a photo(co)polymerization reaction product of the composition. A method of manufacturing a three-dimensional article includes the steps of a) providing an actinic radiation curable precursor composition; and b) selectively exposing a portion of the composition to a source of actinic radiation to at least partially cure the exposed portion of the composition, thereby forming a cured layer. Steps a) and b) are repeated so as to form a three-dimensional article. A three-dimensional article is provided, obtained according to the method. Methods of interfering with electromagnetic radiation originating from an electromagnetic radiation producing device are provided, including integrating an article into the electronic device or placing an article in the vicinity of the electromagnetic radiation producing device.

Abstract: The process includes providing an aqueous mixture including perfluorinated monomers, a fluoroalkyl sulfinic acid or salt thereof, and an oxidizing agent capable of oxidizing the fluoroalkyl sulfinic acid or salt thereof and polymerizing the perfluorinated Nmonomers under free radical conditions to provide an aqueous dispersion of the fluoropolymer. The fluoroalkyl group has from one to three carbon atoms. The amount of perfluorooctanoic acid or salt thereof in the aqueous dispersion of the fluoropolymer as polymerized is not more than 25 nanograms per gram of the fluoropolymer. A fluoropolymer made by the process is also described.

Abstract: Electronic telecommunication articles are described comprising a crosslinked fluoropolymer layer. In typical embodiments, the crosslinked fluoropolymer layer is a substrate, patterned (e.g. photoresist) layer, insulating layer, passivation layer, cladding, protective layer, or a combination thereof. Also describes are methods of making an electronic telecommunications article and method of forming a patterned fluoropolymer layer. The fluoropolymer preferably comprises at least 80, 85, or 90% by weight of polymerized units of perfluorinated monomers and cure sites selected from nitrile, iodine, bromine, and chlorine. Illustrative electronic communication articles include integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, antennas, and optical fiber cables. Fluoropolymer compositions are also described.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a process for removing fluoroorganic acidic compounds from a dispersion of fluoroorganic polymer particles in at least one protic solvent, the process comprising the following steps: (i) forming a mixture of a. a dispersion having a pH-value of less than 6 and comprising fluoroorganic polymer particles, at least one protic solvent and at least one fluoroorganic acidic compound with b. an extraction composition comprising at least one alkylamine; (ii) reacting the fluoroorganic acidic compound with the alkylamine to form a hydrophobic ionic compound comprising the anion of the fluoroorganic acidic compound and the cation of the alkyl amine; (iii) separating the mixture into a first phase comprising the at least one protic solvent, the fluoroorganic polymer particles and no greater than 50% by weight of the total amount of the at least one fluoroorganic acidic compound initially present in the dispersion in step (i); and a second phase comprising the hydrophobic ionic compound; and (iv) removing the first phase from the second phase.

Abstract: The process is described for recycling a heat-treated solid article including a fluorinated polymer having a fluorinated polymer backbone chain and a plurality of groups represented by formula —SO3Z, wherein Z is independently a hydrogen, an alkali-metal cation, or a quaternary ammonium cation. The heat-treated solid article was previously heated at a temperature of at least 100° C. The process includes heating the heat-treated solid article in the presence of water and base to form a fluorinated polymer salt solution, allowing the fluorinated polymer salt solution to cool, and converting the fluorinated polymer salt solution to fluorinated polymer solution wherein Z is hydrogen by cation exchange.

Abstract: The process produces a fluorinated olefin from a fluorinated copolymer having at least one of sulfonic acid groups, carboxylic acid groups, or salts thereof. The process includes heating the fluorinated copolymer at a first temperature not more than 450° C. to decompose at least one of the sulfonic acid groups, carboxylic acid groups, or salts thereof to form a partially pyrolyzed intermediate and subsequently heating the partially pyrolyzed intermediate at a second temperature of at least 550° C. to produce the fluorinated olefin.

R is a bromine, chloride, fluorine or hydrogen atom; and RF is a fluorinated alkenyl group that is unsubstituted or substituted by at least one chlorine atom, aryl group, or a combination thereof or RF is a fluorinated alkyl group or arylalkylenyl group that is substituted by bromine or iodine and uninterrupted or interrupted by at least one —O— group. A process for making the compound is also disclosed. A fluoropolymer made from the compound and a method of making the fluoropolymer are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of making a copolymer is disclosed. The method includes copolymerizing components including tetrafluoroethylene and a compound represented by formula CF2═CF—O—(CF2)a—SO2X, wherein “a” is a number from 1 to 4, and X is —NZH, —NZ—SO2—(CF2)1-6—SO2X′, or —OZ, wherein Z is independently a hydrogen, an alkali metal cation, or a quaternary ammonium cation, and wherein X′ is independently —NZH or —OZ. The components include at least 60 mole % of tetrafluoroethylene based on the total amount of components. A copolymer prepared by the method is also provided. A method of making a membrane using the copolymer is also provided. The present disclosure also provides a polymer electrolyte membrane that includes a copolymer made by the method and a membrane electrode assembly that includes such a polymer electrolyte membrane.
