摘要: In accordance with the present invention an apparatus for securing a plurality of stringers to a mandrel during lay-up is provided, the plurality of stringers and mandrel forming a lay-up surface. The apparatus includes a vacuum source and a first vacuum attachment assembly comprising a first vacuum cup assembly and a first flexible tube assembly in communication with said vacuum source to tightly secure down against the lay-up surface. A second vacuum attachment assembly comprises a second vacuum cup assembly and a second flexible tube assembly in communication with the vacuum source to force it tightly down against the lay-up. A flexible spacer is in rigid communication with the second vacuum cup assembly and includes an extended end in communication with the first vacuum cup assembly such that the flexible spacer presses one of the stringers against the mandrel.

摘要: A fastener feed system for selecting a fastener needed for a particular fastening location from a fastener storage area and delivering the fastener to a workpiece where the fastener is to be installed includes a tray having a floor and a grid partition arrangement defining a multiplicity of cells for holding single fasteners in a vertical orientation and a delivery tube for conveying the fasteners, selected and extracted from the tray, to a fastener inserting device for inserting the fasteners into holes in the workpiece. A suction head, attached to the proximal end of the delivery tube, contacts a top edge of the grid partition arrangement and applys suction to a selected cell to suck the fastener in the cell through the suction head and into the delivery tube. An X-Y motive device is provided for positioning the suction head over the selected cell. The motive device includes a gantry mounted on two slides, one each on each of two opposite sides of a tray holder, for movement in an "X" direction, and a slider mounted on the gantry for carrying the suction head in a "Y" direction orthogonal to the "X" direction. A control system is provided for controlling the operation of the motive device.

摘要: A pre-patterned layup kit with layup patterned to accommodate an airframe topological feature, trimmed to fit a preselected target region of a layup structure, and conformed to the target region contour. The kit can be fabricated in advance of airframe manufacture and stored until use. The kit includes a flexible carrier upon which the layup is laid, and a release layer between the layup and the carrier. The layup has multiple laminae oriented to an carrier indexing element, and indexed to the target region thereby. A kit manufacturing method includes preparing the laminae constituent of the layup, preparing the carrier, and laying down the laminae on the carrier to make the kit. The kit can be compacted, inspected, and prepared for storage. The layup can be fabricated of a pre-patterned lamina or multiple laminae that are shaped and trimmed to accommodate an airframe topological feature.

摘要: A method assembling parts uses a shim for filling a void between interfacing part surfaces. The surface profile of each of the part surfaces is determined and a digital volume is generated that substantially matches the void. A three dimensional digital representation of the shim is generated by mapping the part surface profiles onto the digital volume. The shim is fabricated using the three dimensional representation of the shim.

摘要: A method for manufacturing composite parts. A temporary removal layer may be placed on an inner mold line tool. A composite material may be laid up on the inner mold line tool for a composite part. The inner mold line tool may be positioned with the composite part inside an outer mold line tool. The composite part and the temporary removal layer may be transferred from the inner mold line tool to the outer mold line tool. The inner mold line tool and the temporary removal layer may be removed from inside of the outer mold line tool after transferring the composite part and the temporary removal layer to the outer mold line tool.
