摘要: An infrared heating element of the present invention includes a facing (preferably a fiberglass cloth) which is cut to a desired shape and size, an insulating blanket of the same shape and size as the facing, a heating filament sandwiched between the facing and the insulating blanket. The insulating blanket, which is preferably a ceramic fiber blanket, is rigidized by soaking the blanket is a rigidizing solution, such as a colloidal silica solution, The step of rigidizing the blanket provides at least one face of blanket which is impregnated with the rigidizing solution and a core which remains free of rigidizing solution. While the insulating properties of the blanket at the surfaces are reduced by the rigidizing, the insulating properties of the core of the blanket are not substantially affected. The heating element is included in a portable dryer for use in drying items such as screen printed articles. The dryer includes an adjustable column to selectively alter the height of the heating element of the dryer and a dryer head which is mounted on a carriage to enable the head to be moved between an extended and retracted position. The head is also pivotal relative to the column. The heating element is also incorporated in a heater unit which may be easily assembled substantially without tools. A plurality of the heater units may be assembled together to form a bank of heater units which are physically and electrically connected. The housing for the units allow for the wires to pass from one unit to another, without exposing the wires externally of the bank of heater units and without the use of wire conduits, and for a plurality of heater units to be connected to a single control or power supply.

摘要: A flexible electric heater may be formed from multiple congruent planar layers secured to one another to form a laminate in a variety of configurations. A junction box is adhered to the planar layers over an opening in an outer layer. An adhesive catchment area in the laminate is filled with adhesive, and the adhesive extends into the junction box where it fills a second adhesive catchment area. The mass of continuous adhesive thus formed seals and bonds the junction box to the flexible planar layers. Conductors from the electrical heater pass through the adhesive and may be strain relieved.

摘要: A heater assembly and a method for securing and removing an object, such as a ceramic package to and from a surface, such as the surface of circuit module or printed wiring board, for example. The heater assembly includes a heater element such as a foil (film or wire) element, embedded or sandwiched between two layers of adhesive, such as thermoplastic adhesive. The layers of adhesive may contain a dielectric filler material with relatively high thermal conductivity to enhance heat transfer capabilities through the heater assembly. Two heater electrodes protrude from the heater assembly and are not encapsulated by the layers of adhesive and are accessible so that voltage may be applied to the heater element. During use, the heater assembly is disposed between the base of the object and the surface to which it is to be secured. A predetermined low voltage is applied to exposed heater electrodes to activate the heater element, whereupon heat generated by the heater element softens the layers of adhesive. When the voltage is removed, the layers of adhesive solidify and bond the object firmly to the surface. When bonding a ceramic package to a circuit board, for example, the use of layers of adhesive containing dielectric filler material having a relatively high thermal conductivity enhances heat transfer from the package to the circuit board, or to a heat sink upon which it typically mounted. If the object needs to be removed for repair or replacement, voltage is reapplied to the heater electrodes, whereupon the layers of adhesive soften and the object is removed.

摘要: A heating apparatus for preventing the accumulation of snow and ice, and having an apertured heating mat in the form of a lattice or web. The heating mat is made of a durable weatherproof insulative polymer so that the mat may be installed on any outdoor surface, such as a driveway, walkway, or rooftop. The apertures within the lattice serve to increase the flexibility of the mat, thus allowing the mat to fit uneven surfaces. In addition, this flexibility allows the mat to be easily rolled up when not in use, the apparatus therefore only occupying minimal storage space. The heating mat is also constructed to be highly resistant to wear and may be left outdoors for the entire snow season, exposed to both the elements and frequent vehicular traffic without losing its effectiveness. Also included is a controller from which the apparatus can be set to a manual mode, in which the apparatus may be manually activated, or an automatic mode, in which the apparatus is automatically activated by snowfall.

摘要: The improved heating pad includes a flexible, thin film heating element with two independent semiconductor circuits printed on an electrically insulating surface, laminated between overlying and underlying organic polyester sheets, and electrically connected to an external power source, wherein the heating element is hermetically sealed in an outer organic polymer covering. Thermostats are positioned directly over the semiconductive circuit traces. The circuit traces are connected in parallel by a multi-position switch, with each circuit capable of being energized separately or in combination, and each circuit capable of providing heat over the entire area of the pad. A circuit protective device provides a varistor across the power supply and a fast-acting fuse in series with the circuit traces.

摘要: A window defogging system that comprises a power supply and an optically clear overlay includes a sheet of heat-stabilized polyester (13) having a hard coat layer (15) on one surface and an indium tin oxide (ITO) layer (17) on the other surface. The ITO layer (17) is scored around its periphery (19) to create a groove that electrically isolates the edge of the ITO layer from an interior heating zone (23). Additional grooves create electrically isolated regions (26a, 26b, 28a and 28b). Multiple layers of silver are printed atop the ITO layer (17), along opposing edges of the interior (heater) zone (23), to create bus bars (25a, 25b). The bus bars end at terminal regions (29a, 29b) that are connected directly to the power supply. The housing (61) of the power supply is supported by connectors mounted in the optically clear overlay. In some versions of the invention, a dielectric layer (33a, 33b) is located along a portion of the bus bars, between the multiple layers of silver. The power supply includes a temperature-sensing device, e.g., a thermistor, that senses the temperature of the interior zone and uses this information to control the application of power to the ITO layer via the bus bars.

摘要: An electrically heated garment is provided having the effect of protecting the user against the cold. The garment is made of synthetic fiber fabric, polyurethane foam, polyethylene film, a flexible circuit of aluminum foil, and cotton cloth, formed by hot pressing and gluing each layer in sequence. Furthermore, the two ends of the aluminum foil circuit are connected to the output terminals of a heating control circuit device so that heat energy, which is spread all over the clothes, can be adjusted, raising its temperature to keep the user's body warm. The heating control circuit includes an integrated circuit oscillator whose duty cycle is controlled by a potentiometer, without affecting the oscillation frequency.

摘要: A method for manufacturing a flexible heating appliance comprises placing a heating circuit comprising at least one heating wire between two layers of textile material and combining the latter either directly or with the aid of an adhesive layer, by applying heat and pressure. A lower textile layer consisting of one or several sublayers is placed on the rigid surface of a nail-studded template and the heating circuit is then laid on the lower with its wire being guided about the nail ends protruding from that layer. A second, upper textile layer is then placed on top of the lower one and the heating circuit thereon, and the two layers are joined together by means of a superimposed ironing unit comprising a rigid heatable ironing plate and, on the underside of the latter, an elastic, temperature-stable, heat-conductive pressure plate which covers the remaining protruding ends of the nails, with heating of the ironing unit with pressure and thereby thermally combining the two textile layers.
