Abstract: A composition comprising catalytic materials mixed with diatomaceous earth is provided, wherein, when the composition is exposed to irradiance, heat or other necessary activation environmental factors, the composition actively removes and degrades volatile organic compounds and/or metal ions from air or water streams. The composition can contain binding agents, rheology modifiers, and is shaped via compression or molding to be easily handled. Abstract: Disclosed herein are modified zeolites and methods for making modified zeolites. In one or more embodiments disclosed herein, a modified zeolite may include a microporous framework including a plurality of micropores having diameters of less than or equal to 2 nm. The microporous framework may include at least silicon atoms and oxygen atoms. The modified zeolite may further include organometallic moieties each bonded to a nitrogen atom of a secondary amine functional group comprising a nitrogen atom and a hydrogen atom. The organometallic moieties may comprise a hafnium atom that is bonded to the nitrogen atom of the secondary amine functional group. The nitrogen atom of the secondary amine function group may bridge the hafnium atom of the organometallic moiety and a silicon atom of the microporous framework.

Abstract: In certain exemplary embodiments, an air purifier comprises a housing defining an enclosure and having an air entrance and an air exit; a particulate filter; a NCCO filter material configured to adsorb and decompose at least one gaseous pollutant; an AOG configured to generate at least one oxidant; an oxidant remover configured to remove at least one oxidant; a fan unit configured to generate airflow from the air entrance to the air exit; wherein the particulate filter, the NCCO filter material, the AOG, the oxidant remover and the fan unit are positioned within the enclosure such that during operation, a flow of air passes from the air entrance to the air exit through the particulate filter and the NCCO filter material along a direction of the flow of air. In certain embodiments, the air purifier may ensure safety to users while efficiency in removing contaminants can be greatly improved.

Abstract: A method of synthesizing copper oxide nanoparticles includes preparing a liquid extract of Rumex vesicarius, dissolving copper salt in the liquid extract to provide a solution with copper nanoparticles, adding a base to the solution with copper nanoparticles to form a precipitate including copper oxide nanoparticles. Copper oxide nanoparticles prepared according to the method are effective photocatalysts for degrading organic dyes and antibacterial agents and exhibit anticancer activities.
