    摘要: Techniques to enable parental control for a media console are described. One such technique involves enabling user-specific security (or rights) settings. This technique includes first receiving a user identifier from a user interface of a media console. The technique includes next determining a first security profile for the media console based on the user identifier. In this technique, the first security profile defines a supervised operating configuration for the media console that is specific to the user identifier, and which is controlled by an authorized party, such as a parent. Finally, the technique includes enabling use of the first media console subject to the first security profile. In this technique, the first security profile thereby defines parental control choices regarding use of the first media console by the first user, e.g., a child.

    摘要: Improved delivery of additive materials to cigarettes is provided through the use of one or more capsules containing additive materials, such as flavor components, in the filter section of a cigarette. The capsule or capsules are provided between first and second absorbent members and the capsules are subjected to an external force, such as squeezing, by a smoker prior to or during smoking of the cigarette in order to release at least a portion of the additive material and expose the additive material to mainstream smoke passing through the filter. The capsules provide a barrier between the additive materials and other cigarettes components, such as sorbents or filter materials, in order to reduce additive material migration into the other cigarette components prior to desired use. An outer cover which is impermeable to the fluid within the capsules is provided about the capsule or capsules and the first and second absorbent members.

    摘要: A cylinder deactivation (DOD™) engine is provided with features and operated in a manner to increase the cylinder air charges of the operating cylinders in DOD operation with the DOD cylinders cut out. The increased charge air allows higher loading of the STD cylinders extending the range of torque loads and speeds for DOD engine operation without requiring switchover to STD operation wherein all cylinders are in operation. The result is increased overall efficiency by extended operation of the engine in a DOD mode wherein the operating cylinders have higher levels of volumetric efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.

    摘要: A throttling and intake control system transitions between activated and deactivated modes in a displacement on demand engine. The throttling and intake control system includes an intake manifold pressure sensor that generates an intake manifold pressure signal and a controller that calculates a pressure window based on the manifold pressure and an engine speed signal. The controller transitions the engine from the activated mode to the deactivated mode when the measured intake manifold pressure is greater than the maximum limit of the pressure window. The controller transitions the engine from the deactivated mode to the activated mode when the intake manifold pressure is less than the lower limit of the pressure window.

    摘要: A blisk (10) comprises a plurality of blades (14) attached to the outer periphery of a disc (12). The blades (14) are formed separately from the disc (12) and are attached to stubs (13) on the disc (12) by friction welding. A metal powder, such as titanium, is sprayed onto the stubs (13) to reinforce them during the friction welding process. Once the stub (13) has been coated with the powder spray, plates (20) are fastened on the disc (12) between which the sprayed coating (18) is clamped. The plates (20) restrain the sprayed coating (18) to prevent delamination during friction welding. Once each of the blades (14) has been welded onto the respective stubs (13) the clamping plates (20) are removed and the sprayed coating (18) is machined away. A method in accordance with the present invention can be used for the fabrication or repair of a blisk (10).

    摘要: The valve control mechanism is suitable for use in a valve train which transmits lifts from a cam (11) located on a camshaft (10) of an internal combustion engine to a cylinder head valve (217) of the internal combustion engine and which has a first abutment member (212) in abutment with the cam (11) and a second abutment member (215) in abutment with the top of the stem of the cylinder head valve (217). The valve control mechanism comprises a first tappet member (212) slidable in a bore in the engine, a second tappet member (213) moveable relative to the first tappet member (212) and locking means (220, 221, 222, 223) capable of locking the first (212) and the second (213) tappet members to move together. When the locking means (220, 221, 222, 223) locks the first (212) and second (213) tappet members to move together, the valve control mechanism transmits all of the lift of the cam (11) to the cylinder head valve (217). When the locking means (220, 221, 222, 223) allows the first (212) and second (213) tappet members to move relative to each other at least a part of the lift of the cam (11) causes relative motion between the first (212) and second (213) tappet members rather than lift of the cylinder valve (217), whereby the valve control mechanism reduces the amount of lift that is transmitted from the cam (11) to the cylinder head valve (217). In the first aspect of the invention the valve control mechanism is characterised in that one of the tappet members (212, 213) is connectable with the camshaft only via the other tappet member (212, 213). In a second aspect, the invention is characterised in that the locking means (220, 221, 222 and 223) comprises biasing means (222, 223) which apply a permanent bias on the locking means (220, 221, 222, 223) acting to bias the locking means (220, 221, 222, 223) into a first operating condition in which the locking means (220, 221, 222, 223) lock the first (212) and the second (213) tappet members to move together.
