摘要: A cushion member for a patient interface device that includes a main body portion including a plurality of chambers and a self-sealing cap portion coupled to the main body portion. The cap portion covers each of the chambers and forms a plurality of membrane members, with each membrane member being positioned over and sealing a respective one of the chambers. The cap portion is made of a self-sealing material such that that each of the membrane members is structured to self-seal responsive to having a needle inserted through and pulled out of the membrane member. Also, an apparatus and a method for selectively adjusting the internal pressure of the chambers of such a cushion.

摘要: A patient interface for use in delivering a flow of breathable gas to an airway of a patient includes a first seal adapted to contact the patient's face and seal a first space between the patient interface and the patient's face at a first positive pressure; and a second seal adapted to contact the patient's face and seal a second space between the patient interface and the patient's face at a second positive pressure. The first seal also seals the first space from the second space. A leak reducing element may be provided on a seal to reduce and/or diffuse leakage of gas. A vacuum line configured to create a negative pressure may be provided in the second space to remove any gas leaking from the first space to the second space. A seal may be connected to a conduit for delivering the flow of gas that is incorporated into a frame of the patient interface. The seal may be inflatable by the flow of breathable gas to pressurize the seal against the patient's face and include a vent that directs the flow of breathable gas to a space between the patient interface and the patient's face. A cuff may be provided over the seal in the nasal bridge region to direct any leakage of the gas flow from the seal in the nasal bridge region in a direction away from the patient's eyes.

摘要: The systems and methods described herein provide a quiet, light-weight, and portable system and apparatus for providing positive air pressure to a patient. The systems may include a housing with an inlet port, a vibrationally isolated blower unit positioned in an inner chamber, and an outlet port for delivery of the pressurized air from the blower unit. The inlet port and outlet port may each have a tube with dimensions that are defined in relation to the inner chamber so as to reduce the overall noise output of the system.

摘要: The present invention describes an apparatus and method for determining the energy expenditure of a subject by indirect calorimetry where respiratory gases O2 and CO2 are captured in a tent mask coupled through a pneumotach flow meter to a vacuum inlet of a blower fan whose speed is controlled by a computer running a program that ensures that the bias flow being drawn through the mask always exceeds the subject's peak expiratory flow. VO2 and VCO2 and flow values are measured on a breath-by-breath basis and used in arriving at a bias flow adjustment voltage to be applied to the blower fan for adjusting its speed.

摘要: An apparatus for the supply of humidified gases to a patient is disclosed that comprises a gases supply passage downstream of a humidified gases supply, and upstream of a patient in use, where at least one sensor is embedded in or located on the outside of the wall of the passage. In preferred forms the wall of the passage divides the sensor(s) from a flow of gases in the passage. In use, a controller receives an output of the sensor(s) and derives from the output of the sensor(s) an estimation of a property of gases flowing through the passage or provides a control output to the humidified gases supply according to the output of the sensor(s).

摘要: A respiratory mask assembly including a frame and a cushion provided to the frame. The cushion including a non-face contacting portion removably attached to the frame and a face-contacting portion adapted to engage a patient's face. The face-contacting portion includes a side wall, a rim extending from the side wall and curving inwardly into a cavity of the cushion, and a membrane substantially surrounding the rim and including an inside surface spaced from an outside surface of the rim. The cushion includes a gusset portion extending radially outwardly from the side wall of the face-contacting portion and a reinforcing ring between the gusset portion and the face-contacting portion. The reinforcing ring is constructed and arranged to act as a stiffening hoop to reduce the tendency of the cushion to expand when under pressure.

摘要: A controller or processor for a respiratory pressure treatment device determines an estimate of patient respiratory flow based on a measure of pressure associated with flow generated by a flow generator and a measure of frequency of the flow generator, such as a rotational velocity of a servo-controlled blower motor. The estimate can be made without data from a flow sensor. The measure of frequency may be converted to an expected pressure based on characteristics of the flow generator and subtracted from the measured pressure to determine the flow estimate. The flow estimate can be implemented in the provision of respiratory pressure treatment with the flow generator. For example, the flow estimate may be utilized to trigger expiratory pressure relief during a patient's expiration as detected with the estimated flow signal.

摘要: A connection assembly for rotateably and electrically coupling an accessory to a main device includes a housing portion, a rotatable port assembly, and a wire assembly. An end of the port assembly is coupled to the accessory. The port assembly includes an electrical connector member having a first connector end electrically coupled to the accessory. The wire assembly has an electrical wire member having a first end electrically coupled to a second connector end of the electrical connector member and a second end electrically coupled to a power supply. The wire member is spooled around the port assembly and encased in a chamber defined between the housing portion and the port assembly. Rotation of the port assembly in opposite directions causes the electrical wire member to spool more and less tightly around the port assembly without causing pinching or tangling of wires.

摘要: Modular ventilatory support systems and methods are disclosed in which a user may transition the system between a stationary configuration, an extended range configuration, and a stand-alone configuration. The modular components of the system include a compressor unit, a ventilator which may dock with the compressor unit, and a patient interface which may be connected to either the compressor unit or the ventilator unit. By rearranging these modular components into different configurations, mobility and duration of use may be optimized to fit the present needs. In the stationary configuration, mobility is most restricted, but duration of use is maximized. In the extended range configuration, mobility is enhanced, with duration of use limited by the battery power of the ventilator. In the stand-alone configuration, mobility is maximized, with duration of use limited by battery power of the ventilator and the quantity of an external gas supply.
