    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a novel family of C-type lectins from vertebrates. As specifically exemplified, this family of lectins includes a melibiose-specific lectin (XL35) from Xenopus laevis oocytes, and two human lectins, HL-3 and HL-13, specifically expressed in endothelial cells such as blood vessels, stomach, small intestine, heart and tissue and in small intestine, respectively. Amino acid sequences of the lectin proteins are provided herein, together with the nucleotide sequences encoding these proteins.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a battery module including a base plate on which unit modules, each with two or more secondary batteries therein, are stacked in a vertically erected state, a pair of end plates disposed in tight contact with outer surfaces of outermost unit modules while bottoms of the end plates are fixed to the base plate, and supporting bars connected between opposite sides of upper or side parts of the end plates so as to support the end plates, wherein each of the end plates includes a main body contacting a corresponding one of the unit modules, and a top wall, a bottom wall, and a pair of side walls protruding outward from the perimeter of the main body, the thickness of each of the side walls being increased from the top to the bottom wall, thereby dispersing pressure (bending load) from the unit modules and the supporting bars.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a middle or large-sized battery module having secondary batteries or unit modules, each of which has two or more secondary batteries mounted therein, stacked in a state in which the secondary batteries or the unit modules are erected vertically, the battery module including a base plate on which the secondary batteries or the unit modules are stacked in a vertically erected state, a pair of end plates disposed in tight contact with outer sides of the outermost unit modules or the outermost unit modules in a state in which the bottom of each of the end plates is fixed to the base plate, and supporting bars connected between opposite sides of upper parts or side parts of the end plates so as to interconnect and support the end plates, wherein the base plate is provided at opposite sides thereof with a pair of upward protrusions extending in a longitudinal direction of the base plate to prevent the base plate from being deformed due to vertical vibration and to disperse pressure (load), and opposite sides of the bottom of each of the unit modules are disposed at the top of the upward protrusions.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a voltage sensing member for sensing voltages of battery cells constituting a battery module, the voltage sensing member including (a) a pair of supporting parts, i.e., a front supporting part and a rear supporting part, mounted to a bottom of the battery module at regions (a front part and a rear part of the battery module) corresponding to electrode terminal connections of the battery cells, (b) a connection part for electrically interconnecting the front supporting part and the rear supporting part, (c) conductive sensing parts having one-side ends coupled to the corresponding supporting parts via wires, each of the conductive sensing parts having a larger contact surface than each of the wires, and (d) a connector mounted on the front supporting part or the rear supporting part for transmitting the sensed voltages of the battery cells to a battery control device, wherein the conductive sensing parts are connected to the electrode terminal connections of the battery cells in a surface contact manner.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a battery module configured to have a structure in which a plurality of plate type battery cells is mounted in a module case so that the battery cells are arranged adjacent to one another. The battery module includes a plurality of insulative members disposed between the respective battery cells so that each of the insulative members corresponds to the peripheral shape of a corresponding one of the battery cells and a plurality of cooling members disposed at the interfaces between the respective battery cells. Each of the cooling members includes a heat dissipating fin disposed in contact with the outer surface of a corresponding one of the battery cells and a coolant conduit provided at the lower end of the heat dissipating fin.
