Abstract: An apparatus for assisting a rescuer in performing chest compressions during CPR on a victim, the apparatus comprising a pad or other structure configured to be applied to the chest near or at the location at which the rescuer applies force to produce the chest compressions, at least one sensor connected to the pad, the sensor being configured to sense movement of the chest or force applied to the chest, processing circuitry for processing the output of the sensor to determine whether the rescuer is substantially releasing the chest following chest compressions, and at least one prompting element connected to the processing circuitry for providing the rescuer with information as to whether the chest is being substantially released following chest compressions.

Abstract: A system for providing clinical decision support during a clinical encounter with a patient includes a mobile computing device and a remote computing device communicatively coupled to and remotely located from the mobile computing device, the remote computing device configured to receive clinical data during the clinical encounter from a medical device associated with the patient, provide a first interactive display including the clinical data, enable the mobile computing device to access the clinical data, receive user input based on the clinical data from the mobile computing device, and provide the user input and the clinical data at the first interactive display, where the mobile computing device is configured to access the clinical data, provide the clinical data at a second interactive display, prompt a user for the user input based on the clinical data via the second interactive display, and transmit the user input to the remote computing device.

Abstract: A computing device includes a memory configured to store instructions. The computing device also includes a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations that include providing an alternating electrical signal to a patient through at least a pair of electrodes, and determining transthoracic impedance of the patient from a measurement associated with the applied alternating electrical signal. Operations also include identifying, from the transthoracic impedance, a sequence of resistance values for controlling the discharge of a charge storage device located external to the patient, and controlling the discharge of the charge storage device using the identified sequence of resistance values.

Abstract: A system for assisting a rescuer in providing resuscitative treatment to a victim is described. The system includes a motion sensor configured to generate motion sensor signals that are indicative of motion of the chest of the victim during chest compressions, an input device configured to receive user input indicative of a type of chest compressions, an output device, and a processor, a memory, and associated circuitry, the processor communicatively coupled to the motion sensor, the input device, and the output device and is configured to receive the motion sensor signals and the user input indicative of the type of chest compressions, determine chest compression feedback for the rescuer based on the motion sensor signals, and control the output device to selectively provide the chest compression feedback for the rescuer based at least in part on the type of chest compressions indicated by the user input.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a computing device that includes a memory configured to store instructions. The computing device also includes a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations that include receiving a signal representative of electrical impedance in a chest of a patient, and, receiving a signal representative of the motion of chest compressions performed on the patient during a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment. The operations also include processing the received signal representative of the motion of chest compressions to determine one or more characteristics of the motion, and, processing the received signal representative of the electrical impedance to determine parameters relevant to a production of a signal representative of airflow activities of the patient. Operations also include modifying the one or more determined parameters based on the one or more determined characteristics of the motion to produce the signal representative of airflow activities of the patient.

Abstract: A feedback device for an acute care provider includes: at least one motion sensor; a haptic output component for providing feedback having a varying haptic pattern to the acute care provider regarding performance of a resuscitation activity; and a controller. The controller can be configured to receive and process a signal representative of performance of the resuscitation activity from the at least one motion sensor, compare the acute care provider's performance of the resuscitation activity to a target performance of the resuscitation activity, and cause the haptic output component to provide haptic feedback to the acute care provider by changing the haptic pattern based, at least in part, on the signal from the at least one motion sensor and the comparison of the acute care provider's performance to the target performance of the resuscitation activity. The device can be adapted to be wrist-worn by the acute care provider.

Abstract: Among other things, we describe a system that includes a first medical device for treating a patient at an emergency care scene, the first medical device including a processor and a memory configured to detect a request for a connection between the first medical device and a second medical device for treating the patient at the emergency care scene, the request for connection including an identifier of the second medical device, responsive to receiving the request for connection, enabling a wireless communication channel to be established between the first medical device and the second medical device based on the identifier of the second medical device and an identifier of the first medical device; and enabling transmission and/or exchange of patient data between the first medical device and the second medical device via the wireless communication channel. Such communications with more than two devices may also be possible.
